British Open 2023 Day 1 Jack's Smoothies are DFL in the yearlong competition, but on Thursday at The Open, they came together and lead our pool by 3 over Mag's Mulligans. Gabes' Foreskins were only one shot out of 2nd on Thursday and the daily money payout. At the other end of the pool were Ikey's Hagen's Heroes and Al's Dimpled Balls. The only good thing about the DB team is that they did not have to use Justin Thomas' 82! As for play, Tommy Fleetwood (Foreskins) and Grillo (Smoothie) lead with 5 under 66's. The leaderboard was filled with European names I do not know and a smattering of LIV golfers. At the time of this writing early Friday, Brian Harman has taken the lead, but everyone is either still on the course or haven't started, so too early to predict where the cut line will fall (likely +2) I understand the weather over the weekend will be lousy, making for enjoyable watching for us, and terrible playing conditions for those still standing. While I'm pulling for Scheffler and Hovland, I'd be happy with a Tommy Fleetwood win. He is due, and a quality player. Al, please add your commentary, as I saw little of the action on Thursday. Enjoy the golf! Day 2 First, my apologies for the delay. I'm in Michigan with Sheila for a couples weekend with friends. Sobo's team blew away the field in day 2 with a 341, 8 shots better than Jack posted day 1 and 13 shots better than Al in Day 2. The Open leader is Brian Harman. He shot 65 Friday to a 5 shot lead over Tommy Fleetwood, the local favorite. While writing this, Rd 3 is underway. Most do not have jackets or sweaters, so hopefully the weather will not be the story in round 3. Going into the weekend. Sobo has all 6 players alive. Gabes, Mags and Jack have 5. I have 4 still standing. At the other end.... Ikey has one and Fox has two. Game over for the two of them. I'll try to provide some rd 3 commentary at the end of today's round. In the meantime, enjoy the action. Albert: Tough to enjoy it when I have no chance with only 3 golfers left. Believe me, I am thankful for beating out gabes for 2nd place yesterday. What made it more difficult to watch this morning was that I was subjected to watching the Fat Spanish Baby Huey shoot a -8, 63, now within 3 of the lead. Day 3 The winner of the Claret Jug is still to be decided. In our pool, though, there is no question which team will take home top honors. Sobo's men kicked butt for a second day in a row. This time Jon Rahm leads with a 63! Gabes' team took second in the daily for the second day, trailing by 7 shots. What isn't close is the overall. Sobo takes a 16 shot lead into Sunday. His only question is whether Harman will hold on to win the Jug, or Rahm continues his hot play to overtake Harman. Since both are on Sobo's team, he doesn't care.... As for the play, I was disappointed that Tommy Fleetwood did not mount a charge. He did it on Sunday in one of the majors earlier this year, so... you never know. Overall the scores were pretty decent. No one shot more than +4. I liked Cam Young's strong finish today. If you remember, he played with Cam Smith in the next to last group at last years Open and finished strong... nearly beating Cam Smith. I like Young's distance. Like Fleetwood, he will soon be a winner. My final observation was I didn't know Cara Banks was that tall. Al, I'd like your perspective on Ms Banks. Dar 4 The Champion golfer of the year is 5'7", 155 lb Brian Harman. He absolutely deserved this one. Despite the terrible weather today, he was steady. 3 bogies and 4 birdies. -1 for the day. The 'big' boys, Rahm, Straka and others could not hit it as straight or as close as Harman. It was hard to watch Tommy Fleetwood make par after par, missing countless putts for the first 16 holes. Then, on 17, everything fell apart leading to his triple bogie. A putt on 18 finally went down, but it was too little, too late for this local favorite. As for our competition, Sobo's Pinseekers had the champion, and two others in the top 10. After winning days 2 and 3, they were only able to tie for second on day 4. Day 4 saw Jack's Smoothies take top honors. Unfortunately for Jack, his top spots on days 1 and 4 did not hold off Mags' Mulligans for third place overall. Sobo takes first, Gabes second, and Mags third in the overall. Well done! Reviewing the majors... Sobo did very well with Rahm winning the Masters and Harman the Open. Andy had Wyndahm Clark winning the US Open, while LIV player Brooks Koepka won the PGA. And finally, Al, we all appreciated your commentary on Cara Banks. I'd say your summary was spot on. I'm signing off until The Masters, 2024. I appreciate your patience with my frequent tardy reviews and totals. Hans Overall Result: Sobo $180.25 Gabes $63 Mags $42 Jack $49 Al $10.50 Hans $5.25
