US Open Major Side Bet, 2022, by Hans or as we call it in the USA ... The Open Day 1: I did not watch any of the tournament, but listened to it on the radio driving. Fox leads with a score of 346, followed closely by Gabes and Al, both with 348. then: Hans 349 Sobo 350 Ikey 351 Jack 353 Mags 356**** Andy 357 It is close.... everyone still has a shot. I won't have much tomorrow either other than reporting the scores. Day 2: Congrats to Ikey. Colin Morikawa is tied for first and is on his team. Boo to me for not having Joel Dahmen on my team as he is tied for the lead with Morikawa after 36 holes. Oh well.... As for our event, Mags took day 2 honors with Ikey, despite having only 5 players took 2nd today. The weekend will be interesting for this pool. Everyone has at least 2 players CUT. Andy is down to two, Al to 3, and everyone else has 4, so no room to hide a player that puts up a big score.... I was traveling back from South Bend after the funeral and lunch and saw none of the action. It is interesting to note the star players who will not play the weekend. Cuts include: Berger Simpson Horschel Finau Hovland Cam Smith Lowry Let me know if there are any mistakes. I will be checking in tomorrow from Cedar Rapids, IA. Day 3: First, Happy Fathers Day to each of you.... I had a long and busy day yesterday and was too tired to tackle this last night. Fortunately, I got off the course in time to see some of the action on Saturday. More on that later..... Fox was the day 3 winner and holds the #1 spot going into the final round. Mags and Gabes tied for 2nd on Saturday and sit in the #2 and #3 slots after 3 days. My boys are in 4th after 3 days, and the only realistic option to grab one of the top three money spots at the end of Sunday's action. The weather turned blustery yesterday in comparison with the first two rounds, and todays finale will be even colder. Who wants to live where it is in the 50's on Fathers Day? At one point mid afternoon Saturday, Scottie Scheffller is 6 Under!! But you cant go to the bank with a mid round score. He proceeded to make 5 bogies before one last birdie and ended -2. He could be a factor today. One of the 36 hole leaders, Morikawa, shot the high score of our participants, 77. G'night Colin... Very impressed with the two leaders going into Sunday. Neither Zalatoris or Fitzpatrick have one a PGA Tournament, despite solid skills. I expect one of them to finally reach the winners circle today. Although, my hope is that Rahm can repeat,, considering he is only one shot out. And I would not discount Rory. He can shoot multiple birdies.... but he can also find the ever present long rough and put up a big number. I like the course. Very demanding, as a US Open should be. Should be fun to watch today's final round. Unfortunately I'll be listening to PGA Tour Radio on the drive home from Iowa. Day 4 and Wrap Here, let me get this out of the way now..... In response to the Day 3 results, Al commented: We also have action on Will Z. Matthew Fitzpatrick will likely wilt today, he doesn't concern me OOPS. Al, did you forget that Fitzpatrick won the US Amateur on this course? Well, he won, and I think you should blame Chuck.... As for our pool, Winner Matt Fitzpatrick is a proud member of the Red Foxes. So no coincidence when I tell you the Red Foxes won the overall and took 2nd on Sunday. The top team Sunday was none other than my Ace Holes. Thank you Hideki.... his 65 pushed the Holes to not only #1 Sunday but 2nd overall. It looks like the cream once again comes to the top - as these two teams are in the top 2 spots on the year long pool. Should be an interesting finish... Congrats to Mags. His Mulligans took 3 overall and also cashed some daily pots. And thanks to Brooksy for his 77, setting the high score assigned to all who missed the cut. Maybe time to rethink him, Gabes? As explained yesterday, I was driving from Iowa and saw none of the action... Hopefully there will be plenty of replays. I want to see Fitzpatrick's second shot from the sand on 18. It sounded like the shot of the tournament. I'd welcome any other comments on the action. See you in a few weeks with the British Open pool.
