PGA 2020 Albert's Pool Hans helping PGA 2020 Day 1 A long day ended with Adam Long in the last group and Jason Day tied for the lead. I saw some of the evening action and was impressed by the number of very long putts made. That is a credit to the quality of the greens and the pros ability to read them. San Francisco provided an excellent backdrop for the championship and hopefully the weather will continue to cooperate. Gabes Foreskins are in the top spot day 1, led by his 'favorite' golfer, at least today, Brooks Koepka. Nice 66. Bryson D breaks his driver and still shoots 68. He is amazing. A solid performance. My Ace Holes tied for the lead with Brendan Todd shooting a 65 to also place him in a first place tie for the tournament. Both teams shot 341, a slim one shot ahead of Mags. I believe all teams are still in the hunt. Jack, Ikey and Fox are at 352 and Andy 353 - scores that should not keep them from competing in the next 3 days. I would welcome comments by Al or anyone else who saw more of the action. Hopefully the scores have all been correctly posted. Let me know if i need to make a correction. G'night. Hans Day 2 Wow, Ikey's team really kicked butt. 339 all scores in the 60's led by Tommy Fleetwood's 64. 3rd Place overall so far, with 4 golfers playing the weekend. Sobo's team showed why they are running away with the season title. Not only did all 6 make the cut and take 2nd today with 341, they lead after two days over Gabes team who also saw all 6 make it to the weekend. The overall tournament is led by some guy named Li. He spent 4 hours at the range after finishing his morning round. I heard he was DFL in last week's Memphis no cut tournament. He will not be hoisting the Wannemaker trophy Sunday night. I say the tournament is wide open. As for our event, Sobo and Gabes will have the best odds with 6 going. Andy and Mags have 5 playing the weekend. I give at best 20% chances to both to finish one or two - maybe third.. Jack, Ikey and I each have 4 going Saturday and Sunday. 15% chances. Al and Fox each have only 3 going. That will be tough. Enjoy the play over the weekend. Hans I used to be frustrated as hell when I was running these pools and finding out by Friday evening that I had no chance over the weekend… But still had to do all the work. Tom is doing a terrific job running the pool….I don't need to do a thing….But it is STILL frustrating as hell to be out of the pool on Friday evening Ricky Fowler and Mark Leishman both missed the cut by a single stroke. I started Keegan Bradley… Former PGA champion… Instead of Bubba Watson who has recently played poorly. Of course Bradley was no factor and Bubba will be playing over the weekend. And that is why they call me… Mr. Loser! On the plus side, I do have 2 golfers in the hunt for the title that Li will not win… Regardless of how many hours this schmuck practiced after his round yesterday! Both rose and day are tied for 2nd, 2 strokes back… Along with BK. Would be pretty amazing to see him win 3 PGAs in a row. In watching the event yesterday, the coverage focused primarily on the threesome of Tiger, JT, and McElroy. Turns out that none of these superstars are really in the hunt going into the weekend. Woods had a lackluster 72. And the other 2 became non-factors after both suffered ugly triple's… Neither of which included any penalty strokes! You very rarely see a professional golfer take a triple without penalties. All 3 should be wrapping up their rounds as the cameras roll on Saturday, much to CBS's chagrin. Only a late bogey kept Lorenzo –Vera out of today's final twosome with Li. That would have been the least telegenic twosome in the final group of a major championship ever in the history of golf! LV has NEVER one a tournament on the European tour, and I believe only one win on their version of the Korn ferry tour. What the hell is even doing here?? Enjoy your (Jason) Day… Be sure to stop and smell the (Justin) Rose (S) Albert Babs- Do you see the three putt that knocked Little Rickie out of the tournament? On a closing hole (I think the 17th) he ran a mid range putt past the hole by less than a foot. Moseyed up to the ball and attempted to casually tap it in. Instead he chunked the ground first and topped the ball, moving it about an inch. Hilarious! Sobo Are you F___–ing kidding me!?! He misses the cut by one pulling a stunt like that! And THAT is why they call me Mr. Loser! Albert Day 3 and another team takes top honors for the day. This time Andy's Happy Hookers led with 266, pushing them into 3rd place overall. Gabes' Foreskins took 2nd place on Saturday, edging Sobo's Pinseekers by one slim stroke. The overall standings have Sobo in front of Gabes by One, and Andy by 4. It is anyones to take. The tournament leader is Dustin Johnson (DJ). He is Jack's numero uno player, and finally is playing like it. I like his chances tomorrow, despite Brooks Koepka lurking only 2 shots back. I found it interesting that four players in the top 12 were not starters for their teams. Ikey has Scheffler (2nd Place), i have Champ (T 2nd), Sobo has Dahmen, T12 and Jack has Si Woo Kim, T12. All owners are likely upset these players were on the majors pool bench. Oh well, shit happens. And Jack, i dont know why i have Snedeker in Yellow showing he was cut. I'll try to fix it before the final results tomorrow. I missed most of the play today, so Al, i would appreciate your comments on the action. Hans Some commentary on Saturday's round, as per Hans's request: Like Thursday, and unlike Friday, putts were going in from all over the place. (Except of course for my golfers… More on that later). The granddaddy of them all was Bryson sinking a 95 footer on the 18th green to get back into the thick of things. There was a rumor that a guy named Lorenzo –Vera was tied for 2nd and teed off in one of the final groups yesterday. You would not have known it by the television coverage. Apparently he played poorly early and didn't get on TV until the last hole. Shockingly, a similar fate befell the normally telegenic Tommy Fleetwood who was playing in the last group. A few late birdies got him back to 6 under, where he started. But he got virtually no airtime. Li did not totally crack under pressure but his driving was wayward and he finally paid the big price. A big slice into the trees never came out of the trees and he was forced to go back to the tee to hit his 3rd shot, leading to a crushing double bogey. My 2 guys… Day and rose… Were pretty much non-factors. Rose had two early bogies playing alongside BK, and we didn't see much of him until some late back 9 birdies. Both of them finish where they started, 6 under. So heading into Sunday, there are 12 golfers at -6 or better, with the leader DJ at -9. But anyone at -6 has to pass 6 golfers in front of them, and I suspect that at least one if not more of the golfers at -7 or better will play well enough to preclude the pack at -6 from winning. I would discount Casey and Scheffler from that group and, while Cameron champ is a great young talent, his time will not be today. That leaves DJ, BK and the young but very talented Colin Morikawa, and I'm suspecting that the Wanamaker trophy will be hoisted by one of those 3 Day 4 We would go to a playoff, but I dont see in Al's rules how this would be handled. Tied for first when it was all said and done are the Foreskins (Gabes) and Pinseekers (Sobo). Not too far behind and in the money are the Happy Hookers (Andy). None of the other teams cashed, so we won't even mention them As for the final day, Gabes boys, without the help of big Brooksy, beat Sobos team by one measly shot. The most amazing performance of the week, as far as our Major Pool is concerned, has to be by Ryan Palmer. This character goes 74-66-76-64. What a rollercoaster. And BTW, Gabes got the penny when splitting 1st and 2nd money on the strength of his better daily payouts. Oh yes, there is a champion - 23 year old Colin Morikawa. We will be seeing that name ALOT in the future. He played great and deserved to win. I was pulling for DJ to win and get the big payday (for the Jacobsen year long pool) as I happened to have DJ going this week. 54 players started for our 9 teams. 40 made the cut. And today, only 7 shot over par 70. I would rate that as a fair, but not overly difficult course (for the pros) I took a quick look at the field for next week's tourney in Charlotte. Only a few of the premier players will be there. So, over and out for my first relief appearance running Al's Major Pool. Sobo, will you be handling the $$? That is what the spreadsheet says.... have a great week everyone.
