Masters 2020 Albert's Pool, Hans Hosting Round 1 Thursday Don't look for the day 1 spreadsheet. There is none as the play is suspended for the night. Scoring was pretty decent with Paul Casey leading the way of those who have finished with 7 under 65. I was impressed by Tiger's 68 and Simpson's 67. DeChambeau had a forgetful start with a double bogie 7 on 13 - a hole he expected to birdie, if not eagle. Oh well.... I will get the Day One report out tomorrow afternoon while I play hookie and watch golf rather than work. Enjoy the action! Hans Friday The boys went low on Thursday / Friday early AM. 3 tied at the top with -7 65’s! Very impressive. Two of the three are in the pool, the other, Frittelli, is on my team, but not a pool starter. My biggest surprise of the day was McIlroy shooting +3, 75. ( I did see that he is -2 so far in round 2 through 3, starting on the back, so many birdie holes ahead) Ikey, don’t give up on him. The rest of your team, though, needs a kick in the ass. The team totals for Day 1 were very close. Gabes and my AceHoles tied for the top at 345, with Sobo and Albert only one lousy shot behind with 346. Jack is close at 347. The others trail. I expect the good scoring to continue today. The softness of the greens enable these sharp shooters to go right for the pins, as opposed to playing in April when the same shot would hit and bounce over the green, or at least not stop near the hole. The cut after day 2 will be the low 50. No 10 shot rule, which may not have made a difference. As I write this, DJ is at -9 through his first 3 holes of round 2. Could he be -14 at the end of the day? Likely. Hopefully I can provide more commentary the next couple of days. This working for a living limits the time for important things, like watching the Masters. Best to all, Hans Albert on Round 1 I am not used to my team being competitive so I actually did check the math! :-) Turns out I could have easily tied for the lead or been the outright winner for day one. But good old Phil bogeyed 18 from 157 yards out in the fairway, missing a 3 foot putt for par. But worse was Rickie Fowler making a freaking triple bogey six on number 12… What a piece of crap! DJ looks like he's in a brain-dead groove, -10 and counting now. Andy on Round 1 How bout Larry Mize and Bernhart! Let’s hear it for the old guys! A Round 2 Wow. This is fun. I'm not sure where to start. A five way tie for first among the players, and a two way tie for first in our pool after two days, with 6 teams within 5 shots and every team within 13 shots! First, our pool. Andy's Happy Hookers shot a two day best 344 to take Day 2 honors, AND, they are the only team to have all 6 players make the cut. Ikey's Hagen's Heroes grabbed 2nd on Day 2 with a 348. Unfortunately for Ikey, he has only 3 players make the weekend when we take the best 4 scores. After two days, my Ace Holes are tied with the Hookers at the top, with Albert's Balls, Gabes Foreskins and Mags Mulligans only one shot behind. Ikey is 5 back, Fox 10 back, Sobo 11 back and Jack 13 back. Other than Ikey, everyone has at least 4 playing the weekend. VERY entertaining golf. As for the golf, i am impressed with Rahm. He seems in control, but it is hard to count JT or DJ out of it. From a pure entertainment perspective, how about DeChambeau. What a bad break when he loses the tee ball on 3 in the rough. I'm not sure his beat the hell out of the ball philosophy is the right approach at Augusta. He was LUCKY to make the cut at Even Par. Having said that, i will enjoy watching Bryson play the last two days. Two players made 9 shot swings from Day 1. On the positive side, Rory McIlroy came roaring back from a 75 to shoot 66 on Friday. On the negative side, my guy Paul Casey went from 65 to 74 on Friday. He looked very nervous out there Friday and Saturday AM. I hope he has a Bloody Mary or two prior to round 3. That's what i would do.... Andy mentioned acknowledging the 'senior' players to make the cut. Kudos to Bernhard Langer, T26, -3 after round two. I kept an eye on Fred Couples (love that smooth swing) and Larry Mize, Please indulge me to share a story about Larry Mize. In 2015, the Champions Tour played the Encompass Championship at North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Il. Our business had recently signed up with Insperity for payroll, insurance and HR. Insperity was one of the lead sponsors of the tournament, and asked me a week before if i would like tickets to the event. Sure, i said. As it turned out, the event had openings in the Pro-Am and fortunately our Insperity rep knew i loved golf. They asked me to play! What a thrill to be inside the ropes in a professional golf tournament. At the draw for pros, i was assigned to Larry Mize. Mize is a truly class act, and very good player. As for the golf, i was pumped and at the start of play called Sheila to ask her to come up and walk with me for the final 9 and share in my excitement. She made it for the back nine and It was all worth it as i shot 40-36= 76. Memories for life. No, i've never had a hole in one like Al or Bill. no regrets. Unfortunately Larry Mize missed the cut, but will forever enjoy the recognition as a former Masters Champion, not to mention a good guy. This is a great day for sports on television. Enjoy! Hans Round 3 Fall golf means early sunsets requiring play to start much earlier than is normal in April. I for one am happy for the early finish - so i can get the results out and get back to the ND game. The story of the day was DJ - Dustin Johnson. a huge 4 shot lead going into Sunday. Jack can start counting his Major Win payout, because the rest of his team sucks. The Smoothies are DFL in the pool with a score of 999 after 3 days. Good luck drafting better next season Jack..... My Ace Holes scraped together a 3 shot advantage over Andy's Hookers. We not only take first and second place for the day, we are 1 / 2 overall going into the final round. Other than DJ at 65, no one shot an exceptional score. McIlroy at 67, and two 68's on my team - Im and Lowry. So no fireworks on Saturday's moving day. I look forward to the Sunday round, especially the pin position on 16, which seems to attract at least one Ace each year. The fight in 2020 is for second place. Don't be shocked to see Rory to continue his recovery from his 75 on Thursday. He shot 66 and 67 on Friday and Saturday so we know he has game. Enjoy the play Sunday. The Irish are now up 38-16. Good, i really don't like BC. Hans Round 4 The Masters is always excellent. 2020, even in November, was no different. Congratulations to DJ for a wire to wire victory. And Sobo, for your information, Jack has DJ on his team (as i mentioned in the round 3 results) Unfortunately, no one else on Jack's team played worth a damn, so they finished 8th. Our Pool has a three way tie for top honors on Sunday. Andy, Sobo and Jack all had 284 team totals and split the $31.50. Sorry Gabes and Al - both were a single shot out of the cash. Overall, we have a TIE! Andy's Hookers and my AceHoles both had 1260. Gabes' Foreskins grabbed third place cash. The results are in the attached spreadsheet. I assume Sobo will do the 4 check that, 3 pool calculation of who won and who owes. thanks, Sobo. As for the action today, DJ was so steady. He deserved the win. I was impressed with the play of Cameron Smith and Sungae Im, both youngsters who didn't fold under the pressure. DJ just played better. Most if not all of you thought i was nuts to take Im for this season with the third overall pick. Other than the fact that he plays almost every week, he had a so-so season, and needed this strong performance to validate the lofty selection, especially with so many quality players on the tour. I'm sure Gabes will be sending the season results tomorrow. It has been a strange year with the pandemic and no golf for so many weeks. The Masters in November was a bonus to the otherwise difficult season. and oh yes, Tiger made a 10 on the par 3 12th. That was a shock. But he handled himself with class when asked about it later - and he played with class by making birdie on the last 4 holes. Tiger is the best. That is it for now. I'll be studying the list of players for the upcoming golf draft. 2021 will hopefully be another fun season. best to all. Stay safe!
