US Open 2019 -- Albert's Pool Day 1 Gabes was hot as a pistol with all six golfers under par on Day 1. Fox was almost as good... but not quite. His Ooostie matched Fowler's 66.... and 4 others were under par. His solid 343 is three strokes behind Gabes and he takes second place $$ for Day 1. Andy heads up the list of challengers.... and Sobo and I are alreay TWENTY off the pace. I HATE running pools where I eliminated on freaking Day 1!!!!!!!! Day 3 Gabes' team continues to run like a well oiled machine but will have to be satisfied with sharing first place honors on Day 3 with Andy. Both came in at -5 for the day, 2 strokes ahead of Sobo and 3 ahead of Fox. Mags had a good chance to move up the Leaderboard with all six golfers playing the weekend but his best 4 scores were still +3 at 287. Hans, Jack and I were non-factors. Overall, Gabes has a bulging 11 stroke lead and with six going will be tough to catch. Andy and Fox are separated by a single stroke and Mags with his full team playing can still make a run for the top three slots. As for the Tourney.... the final group played sterling golf. Two AMAZING par saves by Woodland on the back nione, one chipping in from across the green and another a 43' putt. But narrowly missed a birdie on 18, Rose rolls his in, and only a single stroke between the two. Koepka burned some edges that left an eagle and a few birdies out on the course, but still shot a solid 68 and finds himself T3 within 4 of the lead. Reavie is playing great but can't see him hanging with the big boys on Sunday. But Oostie is also T3, -7, and McIlroy next at -6. If any of those have a strong front 9, their pedifrees will put pressure on the boys in the final group. Especially Woodland. Rose has stared down Phil to close out an Open, and has won the Olympics... this is uncharted territory for Gary. Bummer to see Phil go +5 on his last 5 holes. He wasn't going to win regardless but that is a shitty way to lead into ur birthday and Fathers Day Happy Fathers Day to all and enjoy the final round Day 4 Three great scores on Day 4 led to a 3 way tie for first among Jack, Fox and Mags, splitting $28 three ways. Overall, Gabes hangs on to win (as well as cashing the Major skin w Woodland) but Fox made the biggest move of the day, getting within 4 of the overall win, and his 3 stroke win over Andy on Day 4 allowed him to sneak past Andy into second overall. Andy cashed third As for the event itself, the start (w/ Koepka birdieing 4 of 5, and Woodland making a few early on as well) was more exciting than the last few hours. Woodland played great and, for a guy who was 0 for 7 after 54 hole leads, proved his mettle. Only one moment of doubt/interest late.... as Koepka flew his long iron second shot at the pin on #18, Woodland was dumping a weak iron front left of 17, needing to negotiate a big mound in the green to get to the pin. At the time, 2 stroke lead. Alas, Koepka shot went thru the green, tough lie, mediocre chip, and narrowly misses curling birdie. And Woodland hit a 64 degree from the green surface over that mound for a great kick in par. Match over. Nice defense by Brooks after two straight. And with some luck, he could have been playing for the Grand Slam in Portrush. T2 Masters, W at PGA, 2nd alone at US Open.
