Albert's Pool 2017 US Open Day 1 Fowler shoots 65... while DJ shoots 73 and McIlroy 78. Scores were all over the place at Erin Hills. I saw Adam Scott eagle the last hole for Sobo and that, along with fine play by Westwood, Harman and Hadwin, had Sobo's team go low, twelve under 348. But Garcia birdied that same hole to go 2 under. And along with Fowler and Koepka, that was enough to get Mags in at -13, 347. He is a Day 1 winner. Fox and I can make other plans for the weekend. Day 2 Did not watch any of the event, but this year's iteration seems to lack juice. In addition to Phil and Tiger missing, some terrible performances by some of the biggest names in golf, like DJ, Jason Day, Bubba Watson, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, and many others. God knows that my team lacks juice. Berger, DJ, Walker all cut, and I sit tied for last. My best player is Hoffman, who I did not put in this 6 man pool. But Andy's boys had a good day, taking Day 2 honors, edging Hans by 2, who edged Fox by 2 for second place money. Cut is one over 145; i did not yet highlight those cut in the spreadsheet. Exhausted, going to bed. Day 3 Justin Thomas goes 9 under for Fox... but he had only one other active player, so that record score was wasted in my pool. I am sure Fox will be more than happy w/ a major skin instead. If u told me that John Rahm would get cut, and that Mags would still be running away from the field, I would have found it hard to believe. Yet here we are, with him opening an 11 stroke lead on Sobo, who has a 4 stroke lead on Andy, who has a 4 stroke lead on Gabes and 5 on Ikey. All are alive for Top three $pots. All but Andy have 4 golfers alive.... he has 5. Happy Fathers Day to all, enjoy the final round. Day 4 Koepka was a relentless machine whose par save on 13, followed by consecutive birdies on 14, 15 and 16, blew the doors off this event and allowed him to coast to an easy victory. As well as Harman played all week, he was no match for Koepka's talent and distance. The only guys who had any chance against him, based on talent and pedigree, were Fowler and Thomas, and neither did anything to scare the winner. And our pool was just about as exciting. :-) Mags led wire to wire, and even finished in 2nd place for Day 4 to clinch an eleven stroke cakewalk, adding a big major Pool win to a Major skin w/ Koepka. Andy, with 5 golfers going, performed very well on Sunday, a 4 stroke winner for the day and besting third place by 13 big strokes. So the only drama was for third place $$$, $37.80 in total. And Sobo edged out Ikey by one little stroke to secure show $$$$. U guys can't know how depressing it is to manage these pools when your team absolutely SUCKS from the beginning. I was in next to last place all week, a totla of 74 strokes from first. Only Jack, with 5 golfers missing the cut, finished below me. On the bright side of golf results, your author and humble Major Pool Master, did manage to win in a Member-Guest event that I was playing on Fri and Sat during the Open. Well, we won our "Flite", of 6 teams, playing in the second of 8 total Flites. 5 nine hole matches against all 5 other teams in the flite. We had won 3 and halved one going into the final match, but were down two points to the team we were playing in the final. But we beat them 2 up, winning 7.5 of the 11 points to flip the standings. So, to quote Bill Murray in Caddysahck after discussing his encounter with the Mahatma who stiffs him on the tip but assures he will have total awareness upon his death... "So I got that going for me" Sobo, as always, will accrue the $$$ and I will see u at the British Open. And those who attend next year's US Open here at Shinnecock can help me with the Pool... while I take a dip in the pool. :-) Ranked by Score 1 Mags 347 358 278 284 1267 Winners Mags Sobo Andy Hans Ikey Proof 2 Andy 361 351 286 280 1278 Day 1 22.05 9.45 31.50 3 Sobo 348 360 286 297 1291 Day 2 22.05 9.45 31.50 4 Ikey 353 372 278 289 1292 Day 3 15.75 15.75 31.50 5 Gabes 355 359 288 297 1299 Day 4 9.45 22.05 31.50 6 Hans 366 353 294 295 1308 Final 113.40 28.35 47.25 189.00 7 Fox 373 355 289 310 1327 Total 160.65 37.80 91.35 9.45 15.75 315.00 8 Albert 370 362 297 312 1341 9 Jack 366 366 316 318 1366
