2017 PGA Albert's Pool Day 1 Ok, we are under way at Quail Hollow. Tough greens! And LONG ... 7,600 yard Par 71. The scores reflect it. Ikey wins Day 1 honors at just 2 under par. Close contest for second, but Kisner's 67 (sitting tied for the lead) led my Dimpled Balls to second, 3 back, 1 over. Hans and Mags both finished 2 strokes further back. Jack and Fox had rough days, 18 and 20 over. But 1 thru 7 is pretty tight. Three different players selected did not play... Garrigus, Kaymer and Snedeker, so the alternate 7th player was used. For me, that was the lame Jimmy Walker, the defending PGA Champ who I did not want in my Top 6. But he gets in w/ Garrigus out... and shoots a freaking 81!!! Big numbers for other major names.... Mickelson, Bubba, etc. McIlroy hit the ball great, but couldn't score. Rahm is a beast... but so is Koepka, and he really looks like he is now a top tier talent. Fowler recovered froma triple early on to shoot 2 under, impressive! Day 2 - Part 1 There are only a few players who need to finish for us, and only 2 that matter. I have Zach Johnson and Charley Hoffman with a totla of 5 holes to play, Zach has 3 left on back side, Hoffman 2. Those are the toughest holes on the course... the "Green Mile" (sick of hearing that by now, BTW). If they Par in, I tie for low for the day w/ Hans. One over, I tie w/ Gabes. 2 over, those boys finish 1-2. I am NOT expecting an under par finish, will GLADLY take even par. Ikey's boys, leaders after day 1, spit the bit. Hans and I will be close after 2 rounds.... But while I was excited about Kisner going 8 under early, I am PETRIFIED about Matsuyama. 64, r u kidding me?!?!?!? And Jason Day finally looking the the Day of old, lurking 2 back. I like Hans' chances w/ Matsuyama, he is a machine Day 2 - Part 2 Zach and Hoffman finished those last 5 aggregate holes in 3 over, so i slide into a tie for third w/ Fox for the day, with Hans taking medal honors at 4 under, Gabes one stroke back. Hans takes the overall lead by 1 over me, with 3 thru 7 tightly bunched 4 scores count over the weekend...... Andy, Sobo, Hans and Ikey all have 5 golfers going on the weekend. Gabes, Mags and I have 4. Fox and Jack bring up the rear, and each have only 3 going. Andy and Sobo got a little lucky this am. Had one more golfer gotten as low as 4 over, that would have been the cut line. Turns out that 69 players are 4 over or better.... meaning that +5 becomes the cut line, and that allows Chappell and Holmes (Andy) and Adam Scott (Sobo) to play on the weekend. Day 3 Andy had a great Day 3 w the likes of Chappel and Holmes... bastards who made the cut by the skin of their balls.... going 6 under. Andy's 279 bested Hans by 2. But Hans smoked me by 8 strokes, and takes a hefty 8 stroke lead into Day 4. Somehow, Kisner remains on top despite playing thje last 3 holes in 3 over. His DB on 16 was a shame... but pales in comparison to the big fat QUAD bogey 8 that Jason Day took on 18. My DVR stopped before that last hole... wish I could have seen that debacle, as I love to see Gabes tortured as much as possible. Andy's great day has him sitting third, one stroke back of me, tied w. Ikey. Looks like a 4 man race for top 3 spots Day 4 Cheers to Fox and JT for winning the PGA Hans wins our event easily. Andy bests Ikey for second, and Ikey knobbed me by a single stroke for third, thx to Kisner DB on the last. Andy and Mags share, Gabes one stroke back. Gabes, no steak for Andy on the next trip to DC. :-) Last major is behind us, good luck in the FedEx playoffs.
