2015 US Open Albert's Reports Day 1 I take Day 1 on the backs of Reed and Phil, Gabes and Hans tie for second. Day 2 Another strong day for the Dimpled Balls, and Gabes again ties for second, this time w/ Fox. Willo one stroke behind for daily honors. Gabes sits second overall in what is a very tight race, 11 strokes separating second from 8th Day 3 Our pool tightened considerably as the Dimpled Balls fell back to earth, allowing numerous teams to make a move on the lead. Ikey gained the most ground, taking Day 3 honors, and moving up to the third slot overall, just 5 strokes off the pace.. Gabes, for the third straight day, was in (or tied for) the runner-up position, and has moved to within one of the overall lead. And that was despite one of his players, Ben Martin, posting the high score of the tourney, 86. 4th thru 8th are not far behind the top three money slots, and I guess anything can happen on this wacky golf course. Curious as to your opinions on Chambers Bay, thumbs up or down? I think it is too tricked up, with luck of the bounce coming in to play far too often. Balls rolling 50-100 yards after they almost seemed to have stopped around the greens, with the friction free short fescue grass on the course, is just a little too crazy. Mounding on and around the greens is overdone. And the coloration of the greens makes it almost impossible to distinguish the greens from fairway/collars. Happy Fathers Day to all, and enjoy the final round. Day 4 First, we'll address the Pool, then the tourney itself. Gabes' boys were pretty relentless all week, never finishing out of the money on a daily basis, and their tie for top honors on Day 4 was enough to push them past my struggling Balls for overall # 1 finish by a solid 6 strokes. And while my Balls stumbled home, they were strong enough to hold on for second by that same margin. As predicted, it would be a wild scramble for third. Ikey had the lead there, but his team faltered badly on the final day. Willo had 5 men going.... but could not best the scores posted by Gabes and Andy and Mags. Mags and Willo ended one tiny little stroke behind third, with Ikey another two back. But as happy as Gabes must be for the overall team win, I wish I could have been sitting alongside him as Dustin Johnson turned a 12 foot eagle putt for a win into a 3 jerk for the ages. Yikes!! I am not a big DJ fan, and was pulling for Spieth by then, but that was NPOT how I wanted to see this event settled. For Speith to DB 17, miss his own 16 footer for eagle on 18, and win as a result of DJ's horrendous 3 putt (following at least 4 missed amkeable putts earlier on the back nine, BTW).... well, that is not the way u want to see someone win. But I am sure that Fox didn't mind!!! And I have not yet been on e-mail since the finish...I am sure looking forward to some wild rants by Gabes against DJ and that red headed bleep bleeper.
