Masters 2013 Albert's Majors Side Bet Pool Round 1 Round 1 is in the books, and Mags' boys smoked the field. Lesihman's 66 (Leishman????) led the way and the tourney with Kuch's 68 and Zach's 69 supporting nicely. Mags in the lead, huh? Oh yeah, Huh played well as well, with a 70. Mags could throw away Garrigus' 76 and laugh all the way to the bank. Sergio tied for the lead w/ a 66 for my team, Adam Scott had 69, Phil came back from 2 over to finish 1 under. Watney sucked moose and will not be around for the weekend, but I managed to eke out a second by one stroke over Andy's boys, led by Fowler's 68. Padraig will not see the weekend for him. Ikey, glad you got your late entry in... we appreciate the $35. Hey Gabes, if not for Ikey, you'd be smelling all our asses. So while Ikey sniffs yours, enjoys Sobo's (great visual there) as well as all others. Round 2 Day 1 leaders... Mags, Al and Andy.... All had a tough Day 2, and as a result we have a very tight race heading into the weekend. Mags and Andy tied for high score of the day, I was only 2 strokes behind them. But Willo's solid performance.... 4 golfers each shooting identical 71's... puts him at the top of leaderboard with Day 2 honors. Sobo was good for second place on Day 2, edging out both Hans and Jack by a single stroke. However, Willo's "win" is subject to the Green Jackets treating Tiger a lot better than Tianlang Guan. Guan, as u know, was penalized a stroke for slow play, putting him on the cusp of the cut line. Had Jason Day finished 7 under instead of 6, Guan would have been cut due to that one stroke penalty. So what will the Green Jackets do about Tiger Woods, who acknowledged in his press conference that he did not drop his ball "as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played" (Rule 26.1.a) but rather dropped it "two yards further back" from where he had hit. Yes, seems crazy, but in his own words, he stated WHY he dropped it further back, so that he could hit the exact same shot without risk of reaching the pin on the fly. That is mind bending distance control... but does suggest that the extra few yards were taken intentionally to enhance his shot and may, in fact, be subject to penalty. And since his card is signed, the result would not be a 2 stroke penalty but rather disqualification. So do the Green Jackets have the onions to make that call? Very interesting. Bitch slap the 14 yeat old amateur but cower to Tiger Woods? My dilemma is that I am no Tiger fan, and would normally revel in his misery. Add in Willo's misery, and now I am REALLY excited!! But I took Tiger in a Masters Calcutta, and his DQ would have me losing 12 $10 head to head bets, or $120. So my feelings on this matter are decidedly mixed. Sheet attached, cut players displayed in Yellow. Best 3 scores count on the weekend, everyone has at least 3 players going. Hans, Sobo and Ikey have three... Mags and Jack can throw out the worst two scores as they have all 5 playing the weekend, the rest of us have 4. ************************ The ruling is in, and they split the baby. Tiger is not DQ'd, but has been assessed a two stroke penalty, turning his 71 into a 73. That puts Willo into a tie w/ Sobo for Day 2 honors, and a tie w/ Mags overall heading into the weekend. Very interesting..... Rounds 3 and 4 Sorry about no Round 3 update... but hope that all enjoyed the great final day of a great Masters. Well, sure... my guy Adam Scott got me a Major skin, but had Cabrera's chip gone in on 10, or his putt on 11, I would still be calling it a great tourney. The weather did not cooperate... yet it didn't seem to bother the players one bit! The quality of the shots coming down the stretch in the rain was pretty amazing. When my hands get wet, I head to the bar. How Scott was able to regain his composure after thinking he had won was admirable. The shot that Angel hit on 18 to tie was amazing. But while I won the Major sin, and I won Day 3 honors over Mags in second, I ended up feeling Like Angel Cabrera in the end, losing an incredible battle for the overall prize to Mr. Mags by a single stroke. I saw Garcia miss a 7 footer for par on the last.... That one cost me a tie. So it foes... Jack had an amazing last day with 4 players in the 60's and he tool day 4 honors, while Sobo's 3 man team slugged their way into second place for the day... admirable!! Jack's big Day 4 brought him show honors in the overall pool. Congrats to Mags... and thanks for playing.
