British Open 2013 Day 1 Jack and Mags lead after Day 1, splitting win and place honors for the day, with many players close behind in a tight opening day on the Firth of Forth. (Don't the Brits realize how ridiculous that sounds? But I digress.) Will Zach or Dustin Johnson forge forward and run the table? Somehow, I don't think so. Phil and Tiger lurking at 2 under seems interesting at this point. Day 2 In a shocking turn of events, the teams that got blitzed on Day 1 and sat in last and next to last…. Ikey and Gabes, respectively - turned it around BIG TIME on Day 2. Ikey’s boys led the way w/ a 360 on Day 2, a 17 stroke turnaround, and Gabes finished second one stroke behind, making up 12 strokes from his Day 1 finish. With that, we have an amazingly tight race thru Day 2, w/ Jack leading by 1 and my team one behind despite neither of us finishing in the money in either Day 1 or 2. (I suspect that that is an all-time first. if anyone wants to data mine the records, I’ll send all files. Of course, I assume that you all have lives and will pass on such an endeavor.) And last place is only 11 strokes behind first place - likely another all time "first". And which MUST be an all time first FOR SURE… our Day 2 winner, Ikey, is still in last place after Day 2. Strange doings, indeed!! But while the race is tight. I think we already have a winner. Because all teams have at least two players eliminated for the weekend, except for one team. who has ALL SIX going on the weekend. And that is our current leader, Jack. Will be virtually impossible to catch the leader when he can throw out his worst two scores while we play all ours. So the battle is for second place. (And hopefully I just put the kiss of death on the recent Birthday Boy J ) I heard Phil 4 putted for a DB, 3 putting from 4 feet. But he’s still in the hunt with 2 other Dimpled Balls (Scott and Simpson) at +1, 4 back in 11th. But is this finally Westwood’s year? Or does Tiger break the 5 year drought? Does DJ make up for Whistling Straits? Lots of good story lines, enjoy the weekend. Day 3 Jack led Al by one after Day 2… and leads by one after Day 3. But some distance has been put between Jack and Al and the balance of the field, as their teams tied for Day 3 honors at 287, 7 better than the next best scores posted for the day. Jack had the benefit of throwing out two 76’s from Dufner and Cink while I had to play all 4 of my scores, including Simpson’s 77. Fox has a 3 stroke lead on Andy and Hans for third. As for the event, can Tiger finally win a Major from off the lead? Can Westwood finally win a Major? Will be very interesting. And watch out for Adam Scott coming off the pace for a redemptive Open win. Day 4 Just finished watching the final round as I DVR’d it remotely from my iPad while up in the Adirondacks, firing up my home system so I could watch when I got home from a weekend away. What country, America? What a world we live in! Jack, as predicted, smoked the field on Day 4 as his WORST golfers on Day 3, Dufner and Cink, shot 67 and 69 on Day 4, assuring a runaway win for Jack on Day 4 and Overall. Gabes 4 man team put up an amazing 279, as his team did the Jekyll/Hyde thing thru the 4 rounds. Sucked, Great, Sucked, Great. He takes Day 4 Place honors. But Andy’s boys held off Gabes for third place overall. And my boys, led by am INCREDIBLE finish by Phil, easily held on for second overall and I win my second major skin of the year. OH, BTW, Tiger who??????
