British Open 2011 Day 1 Heavy winds hit Royal St. George's today. No problem for Lucas Glover who carded a 66 for Al and helped give his team a first place tie day one. I saw a little of the action in the morning, then didnt check until late. The scores appear to have improved as the day wore on. An early double bogey by Graeme McDowell, for example, gave the appearance of a long day for last year's US Open champ. Not the case, though, as GM posted a 2 under 68. Tying Al for first were my Ace Holes - both at 348. Sobo was oh so close at 349, and Ikey's boys were just one more stroke behind at 350. The other teams are close enough to make a run. I'll try to watch more of the action tomorrow so I can give more of an 'Al-like' recap of the days play. Good luck to all. Hans Day 2 Lets lift a pint for 61 year old Tom Watson. A hole in one on the 6th hole. goes in the first bounce. Its easy to cheer for this Watson. He's on no ones team, and is older than all of us - yet still competes with the 20 somethings. Good for you Tom! The Open Championship is totally up for grabs. Anyone still playing has a chance. Darren Clarke and Lucas Glover have the halfway point lead. The winds again played havoc with the field. Some noteable players are on their way home. #1 in the world, Luke Donald, could not get it done. Same for Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell. both on my team - they suck. Taking day 2 honors is again a tie. Sobo and Fox both had 349 team totals. Going into the weekend, both have 5 players alive - but that is no guarantee of victory. but it sure does help...... The other teams are as follows: Gabes 4 Hans 4 Al 3 Andy 2 Jack 4 Ikey 3 At the halfway point, Sobo has a 2 shot lead over my Holes. Al is in third 4 more shots back, but has only 3 going Sat and Sun. Andy is in trouble. Everyone else has a chance. I will again be watching early in the morning. A great way to start the weekend. Sorry i cant provide any better commentary on the days play. Too many work interruptions. Good luck to all. Hans Day 3 It's been a long day. golf event at noon, drinks etc after. Just got home. sorry for the delay. The only one who cares alot is Sobo. His team is running away from the field. My team absolutely sucked today. Todays golf at the start was under some rediculous conditions. Kudos to Tom Watson for navigating the course despite the weather. Also to Ricky Fowler. He and Rory played most, but not all their round in the worst weather. Ricky shot 2 under. He may win this. If not, he'll win soon. I'm just happy to see a guy with gray hair, Darren Clarke, with the lead. Hopefully he'll win. it does, though, look like a fairly open Open. Lots of players could post a good score and win. What if the weather starts calm then heats up? someone from way back could suprise. Sobo won day 3 with a 282. Jack took second with a 293. Sobo has a 20 stroke lead on the field. A walk in the park. The rest of us, save Andy, have a shot at 2nd. Al, if you would like to finish the pool, be my guest. If not, I'll provide a wrap up tomorrow. Hans Day 4 Congrats to Darren Clarke and to Sobo. both big winners this weekend. I saw action before 7 AM Central and just before my 9:15 tee time. The weather looked rough, but not as bad as yesterday. Otherwise, I have no commentary to share on the action. Looks like Phil finally made a run at The Open. Good for him. But I'm very happy that Darren Clarke takes home the Claret Jug. So, if you would like to add commentary on the golf, please contribute. Sobo again took daily honors, this time with a 284. My Holes finished second today, but out of the 4 day money, which was extremely close. Sobo 1264 Ikey 1295 Al 1296 Jack 1296 Fox 1297 Hans 1298 Gabes 1305 Andy 1331 Al, Andy and Ikey were all given 79 for their 4th, or 3rd and 4th scores, as the highest score posted by a player that contributed to their team score. Note, I did not assess the 80 posted by Henrik Stenson to these teams, as his score did not count in Team Fox. As far as I am concerned, the most important golf today happened in Mississippi where Chris Kirk won me a skin and helped my Holes post a respectable weekly total. and the other was my match play win in the Presidents Cup at Edgewood Valley. The ladies soccer is in a penalty shootout. Good luck to the USA ladies. [They lost!] Hans +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Sobo et al: I appreciate Hans’ perspective on giving us a 79 as opposed to 80. But to date, I have always assigned the highest score of any remaining player, whether that score counted to the Team total or not. So Ikey and I should go up 1 stroke each. Ikey and Jack tie for second and third, and I am out of the money w/ Fox.
