US Open 2010 Albert Day 1 and 2 Other than my team sucking rotten eggs, and Day 1 being the most boring round of Open golf I can recall, Day 2 seemed to set up a little better for the weekend. Els and Phil on the leaderboard is nice to see, especially w/ Phil storming back w/ a 5 under today. Anyone see Jack's Zack Johnson on #14 today? Yikes, it was tough to watch. Just off the Par 5 green in three... and finally was putting for an 8, made 9. Took him 4 strokes to get on the green from 10 yards away. Tough little dude from Iowa still made the cut, though... more than I can say about Ogilvy, Sabbatini, and Senden, the worthless pieces of crap that they are. Woods... pretty mediocre. All of a sudden, Jack's record doesn't look like quite the gimmee. Did you hear the pity party over poa annu (sp) greens in the pm on Day 1? Yikes, like he was the only one putting on them! Mags takes Day 1, Jack secons. Hans grabs glory Day 2, Sobo second. I was one stroke behind. That and $2.50 gets me on the subway Monday. Jack has all six players going over the weekend. Our leader Sobo, along with 3rd place Mags, has 5. The rest of us should enjoy our families on Father's Day. Day 3 and 4 First... our winners. Sobo, by virtue of a 13 stroke runaway win on Saturday, coasted home a 14 stroke overall winner. But Jack took second place on Sat and first on Sunday, ending up with a tidy sum as second place overall. Mags just held off a charging Fox for third place, and Fox captured second money on Day 4. Now... as for the tourney... Sobo had to be disappointed his boy DJ spit the bit as badly as he did and was never a factor after starting w a 3 stroke lead. 6 over after 4 was rough to watch... but it opened up the event for great drama with three of the game's all time greats now poised and positioned to pounce on two guys from overseas who were lucky as hell to even tee it up at thids event. McDowell qualified as 50th on the ranking list... the very final spot, and one that he would have lost had any one of three golfers birdied the last hole at Colonial. And Havret dropped a 45 foot bomb in a qualifier on the last hole to male it to, and thru, a playoff to qualify fpor the event. Surely these two could not withstand the pressure of knowing that Woods, Els and Mickelson lurked a few strokes behind? And, for the most part, they played their part, sliding backwards against par. Except not one of the big three could take advantage. By the time Woods birdied 14, he needed a miracle, and one he did not come close to getting, with tons of loose shots and missed putts prior to and after that. Had he shot even par, he's in a plaoff tomorrow. Els got it to three under, then doubled 10, and then missed any number of shorts putts including 17 for par and 18 for birdie. Phil? Made some great saves but couldn't save par on 14 nor 16, never gave himslef a birdie try down the stretch, and loses by 3. Good for McDowell, seem slike a nice enough guy. Better him than the French Frog. And it does give us a double major skin at the British. But all in all... a very disappointing event, I thought. There for the taking... and no one stepped up.
