British Open - 2008 Albert's Round by Round notes: Round 1 Conditions were tough and scores were high on day 1. But Ernie and Singh shooting 80, and Phil 79? While the Great White Shark shoots even par? Interesting day for sure! But how about Andy's Rocco leading the way with a 69, and along w/ Adam Scott's 70, leading Andy's team to a day 1 victory over my Dimpled Balls. Gabes and Fox should have gone bowling instead of golfing, as their 300's would have been perfect! I don;t know what to say about Mags' 308. And he responded with an 11 stroke improvemt to 69 on Day 2, which not only led Gabes team to a 7 stroke win for Day 2 honors, but actually landed him on the cut line, giving Gabes four golfers for the weekend. That could end up being big. Hans boys took second for th day, moving up to third overall, two behind me and three behind Gabes in first. Our first round leader, Andy, lost 17 points to Gabes on Day 2 and now is tied for 4th w/ Jack. Mags came in under 300... but his 295 tied Andy for worst of the day, and he has only one golfer going on the weekend. Unless Jacobson makes a big push Sat am, Mags, you can make other weekend plans. Gabes, Hans, Jack and I have 4 golfers going on the weekend... Andy, Fox, and Sobo each have three. You only need three good scores, so lots can happen with only 10 strokes seaparating #1 from #7. As Gabes proved on Day 2. Amazing! Could have just as easily been a 4 stroke lead, with an eagle putt on 17 stopping inches short, and a great chip on 18 lipping the hole. As well as Norman has played, those are the things that never seem to happen for him that always happen to someone else. But man, I will be rooting so hard for him tomorrow. I have always LOVED Norman, and died with every heartbreak he had over the years. This would be an incredible story. As for our own tourney.... Hans is never out of things, and his Day 3 best 218 has gotten him 4 strokes ahead of the field heading into Sunday. Jack, Andy and I all posted competitive rounds of 221 thru 225, and are 4 to 7 strokes back.... manageable deficits. Gabes continues to blow hot and cold. Not counting Mags, he was the high score Thur, low score y 7 on Fri, and high score again on Sat. Fox and Sobo will need some great scores on Sun to mount a threat, but still not out of things. Of course, Jack's last minute decision to take Harrington... the Champion... out of his 5 man team due to a specious "wrist injury" (clearly, the Irish were playing with the odds of the London bookmakers) cost him Hans #1 spot, as the delta between Bryant and Harrington was far greater than the 8 strokes by which Jack lost. He did, however, take a tie for third with hot and cold Gabes. My Balls edged both Jack and Gabes for second with solid play each day, but nothing better than one second place daily finish. Pouleter threatened for about 30 seconds... but he three putted 17 when a birdie would have given him the lead, and Harrington birdied 13 a few seconds later, and that was the ball game.
