Boys, There were some big numbers on the board on Thur... lots of 79's and above. TWO on my team, w/ Maggert and Byrd coming in at 79 and 80. But as bad as that was... 9 behind the teams in 8th place... I am still 11 strokes up on Sobo, who had only one golfer beat 78. Gabes catches a break as Huston did not play, opening the door for alternate Janzen, and he responds w/ red numbers on day 1. That was good for a second place finish for Gabes, who could not top the late entry of Jack's boys, featuring Mickleson and Andrade at a collective 7 under. (Note: I am attaching Jack's original note of entry sent to my aol account, prior to tee time.) (Further note: The site shows Huston as a "WD"... but I cannot tell if he started and THEN withdrew, or did he withdraw before teeing off. A precedent was set last tourney w/ Sobo, as Montie started but did not complete Rd 1, and we ruled that as a WD and did not give him the option of replacing Montie w/ an alternate. But unless someone can document that Huston actually played, I will give Gabes the benefit of the doubt.) Anj came in a solid third... 2 strokes out of place money for Day 1 but well postioned for the tourney. I also suspect that Anj will research the John Huston affair fairly closely upon his return to Rochester. His moles will be out at Oak Hill, getting the real scoop, I'm sure! ************************************ Al, John Huston shot a 77 (38/39) prior to withdrawing yesterday. Just thought you would like to know. Does this change any payouts? Andy ************************************ Someone's balls are going to be big.... Seems that John Huston DID tee it up on Thur, and Andy's moles report he completed the round, shooting a 77.... then withdrew. So Gabes does not get the worst score of the day (as he would have if Huston WD during the round) but he DOES get the 77 instead of Janzen's 68. And he WILL get the highest score of the next three days for Huston. The revise board looks like this, w/ Andy getting second place money. Al ************************************ makes me feel a lot better. Gary ************************************ Anj, You just can't trust those young kids. Jack ************************************ Sobo... I knew you would see justice in this ruling. Of course, you still went ahead and took Montie again and he might as well have WD'd. babs ************************************ Jack and Ikey split Rd 2 honors... which was VERY tight. Rd 3 soon. ************************************ Jack is running away... big fight for 2 and 3. 3 way tie for first.second day 3. ************************************ Funny Montie story from yesterday: I was talking with the girl who was manning the device that is used to measure club head speed (avg. is 112-115 mph, we saw Couples boom a drive that she told me was measured at 121, Hank Kuehne registered the high so far for the week at 133). She said that only one golfer has ever given her a problem (she has to get directly behind the tee shot to use the device) - Montie. Apparently he hit a shot on Friday, shortly before his early exit, turned and glared at her as if it were her fault that he was playing so poorly. (For the record: she swore that she hadn't moved a muscle, no jingling change, nothing...). A nearby spectator confirmed her contention that Montie just hates playing in the U.S. and told how on Thursday he was playing with just his caddy along, and by Friday, he had added a security guard to his posse. Apparently he wasn't taking fondly to Rochester fans calling him Mrs. Doubtfire as he waddled down the fairway. Gotta love this Oak Hill course for a major: "Hardest, fairest golf course" per Tiger who was not a happy camper yesterday again. I'm back for more today, looking for a great finish as 16, 17, and 18 at Oak Hill can really be interesting. ************************************ Montie blows, sucks, and bends over. Possibly the worst rotogolf pick ever. Even rivals Blauser. Sobo ************************************ He played like Mrs. Doubtfire. Jack ************************************ Andy: I heard the Infoseccorp corporate tent was outstanding! Champagne massages and 48" monitors for each hole - nice touches! Prep ************************************ First things first... a mistake was made in RD 3, where I assigned an 80 to Maruyama... who actually shot 73. That lowered Gabes' score by 7, giving him low for the day, Hans, Fox and Prep tieing for second. Prep, w/ all 5 golfers going, managed to win final day honors but could not break inti the money overall, falling one stroke short of a tie for third, shared by Fox and Hans. Ikey was in great shape heading into Sunday... but his 3 survivors shot 76, 76 and 81. Gabes survived the Huston WD and Verplank cut, and with only 3 golfers going on the weekend, he jumped into second place w/ the weekend's lowest subtotal. Amazing. Hans and .. But Jack was Mr. Consistent, and cruised home a 7 stroke winner. Sheet is attached... please review, and I will forward $$$$ totals for Sobo to track later today or tomorrow. See you at the Masters!
