Round 1

Monty made a slew of lucky putts and has a 3 stroke
lead in the BO. I'm sure he'll handle the pressure
poorly - look for him to be about 8 over tomorrow.
And he'll blame it on the spectators.

At any rate, Willo did not waste Montgomerie's effort
as Duval shot a very good 69 and Lickliter came in with
a respectable par 71 (of the 30 golfers we started in
the side pool, less than half shot par or better).
Willo is the winner of the first round, by a healthy
7 strokes over the second place pair of Hans and Albert.
My Fox's are in 8th place and now I remember why I usually
stay away from these side bet pools.

Sobo's entry brings up the rear, led by Weir's 78, the
worst score by any pool entrant. He looks like a lock to
be cut. Jack's two teams are neck to neck in the
 middle of the pack.

Round 2

Here comes Andy.

Besides making an illegal attempt to rearrange
his regular pool starting lineup after the
deadline, Andy had a very good day in the side
pool. His 203 bested the Foxes 208 for top
total of the day; they both win a portion of
the pot. Andy is now only 1 stroke behind Willo
for the overall lead.

But the most important thing in this pool is
who has how many making the cut. Here's the
breakdown:

3 left: Gabes, Andy, Willo
2 left: Hans, Al, Both Jacks, Fox
1 left: Sobo (Allenby just squeaks by)
0 left: Mags

Does Mags get a special prize or anything?

So, its probably a three team race ... I think
the best hope for the rest of us is that the weather
acts up and everyone plays poorly ... but that no
remaining golfers blow up. Seems a weird thing to root
for an me thinks these pool rules could use some
tweaking ...

Round 3

Willo, Willo, Willo.

This time its Duval who leads the way for the
Hogsters lineup. The wear and tear is showing on
Monty (scores of 65, 70, 73 ... tomorrow?). But
DD plays very well with a 65. Its a wonderfully
crowded leader board but I think Duval has the best
shot of any of them.

Meanwhile, my two entries both play great and
even with the cut player I tie Willo for honors
for the day at 211. All cut players posted a
competitive 76 (5 over par), since no "live"
pool golfer shot higher than that (mostly, I think,
because Mags' players have all gone home!)

Willo holds a commanding, but not insurmountable,
lead of 8 strokes in the overall. Andy and myself
are tied for second, with Albert, Gabes, and
Jack close behind. Of this group of six teams
who seem to have the best shot at finishing in
the money, Willo, Gabes, and Andy have three
golfers still playing. The other three teams
have two.

I plan on tuning in early tomorrow ... 14 golfers
within two strokes of the lead including many big
names ... and many more big names just a few more
shots back. Should be fun.

Round 4

British Open Pool People,

To tell you the truth, I was glad to see Duval win
the thing. He was cool, calm and collected the trophy.
He was a machine. I'm in awe.

And how about that crybaby Woosnam? Bogeys the first
hole and starts throwing clubs around. What a wuss.
If he wasn't such a women, that first tee shot would have
gone in ... how could he leave that short? ... your in
the brit open for god's sake, hit the ball ... he could
have started the round with a par, the cheatin bastard.

Willo, I told you that British pansy Montgomerie couldn't
hold the lead - but to give the man credit, he hung in
there. And between him, DD and Lickliter the Willo cleaned
up. Not only winning the side pool, but grabbing two
major skins. Damn it.

Now everybody fess up ... when Willo took DD with the
third pick you all thought "mistake" ... he's hurt ...
bad back ... toast ... And here he wins the biggest victory
of the year. What do they say? "even Willo finds his
nuts blindfolded". Sort of like when Albert took Bonds.

The others in the money are Andy and Gabes. Andy had second
all to himself and took the honors the last day with Willo
right behind. In addition to Wiilo, Andy and Gabes, I
managed to almost win back the entry fee with a hot 2nd/3rd
round streak ... and Albert and Hans also "win" some lose change.

The totals of everything are below. This will all be folded into
the final acounting.

It wasn't dramatic, but it was fun.

Let's put golf major pool options on the agenda for the
Ikey is Spaced reunion.

Cordially,

Fox
