Ok boys, based on my useless fantasy baseball rag, here are the overall "values" of the cyberzahm teams: Mazins - 507 Nuzzahs - 475 Invincibles - 467 Pinstripes - 464 Muckrats - 452 Panzas - 452 Ballbusters - 442 Tamales - 442 red foxes - 441 Hogmen - 429 Leathernuts - 428 Pretty meaningless, in terms of what actually happens during the year in ligh of trades, injuries, etc. Also, with a 10% error added in terms of player values, all the teams come up even in terms of the ratings. But let's look at the teams in reality: Leathernuts: much improved (thanks to Mel no doubt) over last year's effort. Kind of a slow team, medium power, decent pitching, but wasted two picks on mediocre closers. Won't win, but won't be last. But Blauser is still out there. Hogmen: Willo was clearly distracted during the draft. Will not repeat as champ, but will as chump. Good OF, bad IF (even Chipper will have an "off" year), two good starters (Wood, Wells) both of whom may not repeat last' years numbers. One good closer. I also liked the A Fernandez pick- if he gets traded. red foxes: Appropriately lower case. Four real good starters, five mediocre. Fox will be dealing for closers at Myrtle Beach. The two worst picks for C. Not a lot of power. Good speed. A Fox team. Liked the A-Rod pick (Of course. You were lucky to get him!) Liked the JD Drew pick. Do you always draft Olerud? Tamales: Sobo is creative when it comes to putting a team together. Some big question marks- Will Mondesi shape up? Is Anderson any good? Can Easley repeat last year's numbers? I liked all of those picks, plus Devon White, Lopez, Smoltz, and of course Biggio. But the P quality drops off fast, and the rest of the picks, well... Sobo will be busy dealing all year. Ballbusters: Gabes had a relatively quiet draft, perhaps hungover from too many late nights at the girlie bars. But it's not a bad team and will be in the run for the money. Two good closers, but not as good as my two. Liked the Stewart, Rolen, Casey, Griffey picks. Maddux is so good, he's boring. Estes and Pavano were good additions, but my last round Met will do better than yours. Panzas: Hey Albert, pick another Met! The Panzas have a pretty good offense, but Canseco and Henderson are going to hurt. The pitching looks pretty solid, although probably not tops in any category. I liked the Delgado, Marrero, and Saberhagen picks. Deshields? Should have kept picking! Now an underachieving Oriole. Panzas will do much better than last year. Muckrats: John did pretty well on pitching, so-so on offense. Weak power numbers. Should have done better on the infield corners. The surprising thing is, there are no Seattle Mariners on the 'rats. If the Muckrats do well, you should thank me for letting Nomar and Hoffman go by. Pinstripes: The Belle pick surprised me. Maybe it's a good one, but the Orioles-underachieving-jinx is sure to strike. Plus Albert tends to self-destruct. Excellent outfield, except for Garret Anderson. Klesko was a great last pick I think. Pretty darn good infield too. Picthing falls off after Clemens and may not be enough to propel these guys to the top. A contender though. Invincibles: Early on I wasn't too impressed with how the Invincibles were stacking up. Big Mo and Piazza are great picks, but the outfield looks a tad weak. I thought O'Neill was picked awfully early. Taubensee is good, and if healthy, this is the best C duo. Brown is a great P, but the rest are uncertain. The Invincibles are not, this year. Mazins: For an umpire, this guy makes pretty good decisions, sometimes. Excellent infield corners, Lansing will rebound from last year's doldrums. I like Green, White, Walker in OF. Pitching may be the downfall though, as three closers (two are so-so) and one closer-in-waiting will not get enough points to make up for the last place finish in Ws. But I really wanted Chen. Nuzzahs: Not as good as I wanted, but I'm mostly happy with the offense. Pitching is a gamble, and I'm gambling that 2nd tier starters won't hurt me too much. In defense of Jeter over Nomar, I definitely wanted a SS in Round 1. A-Rod was predictably gone. I thought Nomar might deflate a bit with no Mo (right Al?). So I took the gamble. We'll see. And yes, Ordonez' name is catchy, but I think he'll put up good numbers and I was glad he was still there to pick. Some questions (Palmeiro's and Grissom's health, and Sheffield's attitude), but this team is going to surprise you guys.
