Deadline for the next and last period is Sunday, Sept 7th, midnight. There was a lot of action this period. Action means, I think, that people are having fun. So that seems to argue for a late trade deadline. Several people this week mentioned that they think we should not have payoffs for category winners, since it affects the way owners approach trades and takes away from the overall goal of winning the entire league. Hmmm? Seems to me that there are plusses and minuses to paying for categories but I think for us the plusses outweigh the minuses. Anybody? Trade 1 is a three team trade, our first I think, and involved 9 players, which makes it our biggest. Trades 2 through 5 were made at Albertfest, with the aid of much beer and wine. A summary of the trade action: 1. Muskrats lose McGriff, RJefferson, VCastilla, and JSmoltz, and gain FThomas, RPemberton (then waived), TNaehring (also waived), and JKey. Tamales lose FThomas and Naehring, and gain WClark and VCastillo. Bombers lose WClark, JKey, and RPemberton, and gain FMcGriff, RJefferson, and JSmoltz. 2. Foxes trade RMartinez to the Mazin's for Montgomary. 3. Mazin's trade RKlesko to Hogmen for RGant. 4. Leathernuts trade ABelle, BAnderson, MDuncan, and ERenteria to the Ballbusters for BHuskey, GHill, CKnoblaugh, and SDunston. 5. Leathernuts trade CKnoblaugh and KHill to the Mazins for MMcLemore and DCone. Waiver moves: 1. Muskrats waive Pemberton and get Tom Goodwin (TX). Muskrats waive Naehring and get RCoomer. 2. Invincables waive BRuffin and pick up Escobar of Toronto. 3. Tamales waive BAbreu and pick up Cameron, (WSox). Below are the emted e-mail notes although most moves were reported in person. Fox ********************************************************************* ICC, The Muskrats, Bombers, and Tamales announce the largest three way trade in Cyberzahm history. The Muskrats trade three players to the Bombers: Fred McGriff, Reggie Jefferson, and John Smoltz. They receive Will Clark, Jimmy Key, and Rudy Pemberton. The Muskrats then deal Clark and Vinnie Castilla to the Tamales, who give up Frank "The Big Hurt" Thomas, and Tim "I Have a Big Hurt" Naehring. All parties agree that the trades are final, and cannot be revoked prior to the trading deadline. Sobo CEO Tamales *********************************************************************** Fox, I went and shook up my team! So, I have two waivers left and I'm using them. I am waiving Nehring and Pemberton, the dead men I picked up from Mags and Sobo. In their stead I want: 3base first choice: Ron Coomer (MN) 3base second choice: Russ Davis (SEA) (I hope that Pinella will let his bat play) OF first choice: Tom Goodwin (TX) (pleeeze steal me about 25 more) OF second choice: Stan Javier (SF) Hope this goes. I am on vacation until August 15. EMail me back to confirm. Be well big guy, and let the blessed sap be with you. John ***************************************************************** Fox, Saw on the Home page there is a question on my waiver pick to replace Abreu. My choices, in order, were Cameron(WSX)/Goodwin (TX)/Bernie Williams/Jose Cruz. Good to see you again. Sobo Head Tamale 5555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555 NOTE: See notes on TradeScam off the main Cyberzahn page to read about a small controversy surrounding this period's trade action. FOXES GO CRAZY!!!!! TEAM COMPLETELY OVERHAULED. I didn't save each specific moves request this period, but here is a summary. Sorry about going on and on about my moves in what follows, but I did set a record for transactions this period and I have to have some fun out of this, don't you think? AL moves take effect Monday. NL moves take effect Tuesday. Fox *********************************************************************** Some waiver requests and results: Panzas: Replace Cecil Fielder with JTSnow, or Hal Morris, or John Mabry. They get Snow (SF). Hogmen: Replace Guzman with Foster or Avery. They get Foster. Replace Navarro with Avery. I'll allow them to have Avery. This is a violation of the new rule that says you cannot list a desired player as a replacement for two of your players unless you request that your lower drafted player gets first dibs ... Willo clearly intended this replacement to put Guzman (#136) ahead of Navarro (#118). Penalty ... 1 20 oz glass of premium lager, tapped, with peanuts. Any crap from Willo and it gets upgraded to cashews. Note: The Hogmen had previously released Avery! Busters: Replace Brian Jordan with Hammonds, Merced, Everett, etc. I didn't write the entire list down. They get Hammonds. Note: When Gabes sent this request in the list of replacements wasn't hidden down the page or anything. I tried not to let that info affect me but it turned out that I was in the market for an OF also ... we need to find a way for me to stay clear of waiver info until after I make my picks. I think in my new mail system I can have letters automatically saved to a file based on their "Subject" line. I'll look into that. Bulls: Replace somebody (Hentgen?) with Irabu. Violation. Irabu is off limits, in accordance with the clear, concise rules, and as has been pointed out several times. Penalty ... a properly pulled pint of guinness stout. If not properly pulled I will still drink it, and we'll do it again, until I see a pint that I deem properly pulled. I'm sure we can get it right after a half dozen attempts or so. I told Hans he could send me another move by tonight (Sunday) so there still might be a waiver move to report ... but I'll amend that as follows ... he can't snake anybody who's already made their picks. Foxes: In a frenzy reminiscent of Michael Corleone's revenge against the family that gunned down Sonny, the Foxes cleaned house. We made 3 trades and 5 waiver moves involving 10 new players. The GM was quoted as saying "I'm tired of looking at the same old crappy team, so I've decided to look at a new crappy team. Understand that the Foxes are so far back in Wins that they are embracing last place in that category." Foxes trade Shane Reynolds to the Panzas for the injured Ramon Martinez plus a waiver right. [Al ... I did decide to keep Ramon on my roster. On the DL he can't hurt my ERA like VanLandingham can] Foxes trade Pat Rapp and JRosado to the Mazin's for Hudek and Wagner. Foxes, in what we and the Nuts believe qualifies as a blockbuster, trade Matt Williams and John Smiley to the Nuts for Gary Gaetti, RAguilera, and two waiver rights. This was probably a mistake ... at the time I thought I needed all the waiver moves I could get but I ended up having trouble using them all ... and I wasn't going to sit on them. With their five waiver rights, three of which were obtained in the above trades, the Foxes: 1. Replace the still hurting Sean Berry with the soon to be back Robin Ventura ... although I did read on the net that RV's ankle has been bothering him again. [TAP - I decided to keep GG .. he had a good 2nd half last year and has been hitting OK lately ... meanwhile I think Berry has never recovered from his off season surgery.] 2. Replace the "my ERA is as big as my name" William VanLandingham with Cleveland's new closer, MJackson. 3. Replace Carlos "I can steal 90 bases this year" Garcia with the Mets Mr. Clutch: Edgardo Alfonso. Yes, he qualifies at 2B. 4. Despite Benito's recent HR, and his two consecutive starts, he is history. But finding another catcher wasn't easy. Oliver? But Taubensee could win back that job anytime. Colorado's Reed? Nah .. he only plays a couple days a week. I'll go with Florida's Charley Johnson! Because: I still think he's better than JK eh Andy? ; He's been hitting well lately ; In 95 he lit it up in the 2nd half ; he's young and strong. 5. I considered replacing Barry Larkin with Blauser but I still like Larkin and hope he finally comes back healthy. And I have a vested interest in him, in other leagues. Plus I heard that JB is nursing a pulled muscle. I tried to figure out who is going to get the saves in Toronto, but I couldn't do it so I decided not to take another reliever. I considered dropping Lance Johnson, who hasn't done much for me, and who the Mets don't even like anymore. But he's supposed to be healthy now and he hit .360 in the 2nd half last year. So, I'm waiving Bernie Williams. He's played well for the Foxes but he was out for two weeks, came back and went 0 for 20 (or something like that), hurt himself again, and is now out for at least two more. I read that his hammy won't really heal until the off season. This is where I was considering Hammonds as a replacement but I decided to go with Luis Gonzalez. He's had a recent long hitting steak and I have him in one other league. [I see he hit 2 HR's on Sunday ... too bad that doesn't count for me yet but I hope he continues to show power. That would be a bonus.] So, what do you think of the new Foxes? I figure that if all these moves work out, and if Gary S. and Barry L. come back healthy, we might be able to move up close to 8th place. One last thing ... I had the Nuts down to two waiver picks, both of which they traded to me in order to get Matt Williams. But I'm not sure of my accounting, and they may still have one pick coming to them. Could somebody, maybe the DICC or the DICC Extendher, go over the trades and moves and see if the following waiver rights remaining list is correct: Tamales 1 Invincabuls 2 Muskrats 2 Everybody else has zero. Thanks. Fox 4444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444444 Roster changes ... beginning June 23rd Not much action this period. Sobo trades Hill back to TAP for Brantley. Andy ruplacus Hollandsworthless with Andruw Jones. Gabes replaces Eric Davis with Butch Huskey. Sobo replaces Brantley with Chan Ho Park. New penalties: Andy: 6 more pints ... What a dork! Sobo: 1 pint My comments marked with >. ICC ******************************************************************** From: Gary Subject: ***********(TRADE?????and WAIVER MOVE)********************* Fox, I'm sending this today because after tonight I may not have access to e-mail (driving with family to Chicago). This is a bit complicated because I've not heard back from Preppie re: the trade we made last period, ie, Hill for Brantley. Given the uncertainty of both players' health, we agreed if either player was on the DL come June 22, the owner of that player could trade back. Since Brantley is out another 6-8 weeks, TAP has the option to trade him back to me for Ken Hill. If you hear from him in that regard, I agree to the trade as described above. > Gary ... you guys need to straighten this out ASAP. > Tom P. ... are you there? > I seem to remember some cryptic post a few weeks ago saying something > about the trade being reversed. Anybody? > 6/24 OK they did re-exchange Hill and Brantley. If I get Brantley back, I will waive him and select from the following list: 1) Park, LA; 2) Wells, NYY; 3) Hershiser, Cleve; 4) Morris, StL. If Preppie does not exercise his option, I keep Ken Hill and waive James (No Brainer) Baldwin, selecting from the same list above. Hopefully, this does not cost me multiple beers to the ICC. > OK. Only a one beer penalty. Sobo CEO Tamales ****************************************************************** From: Andy Subject: Waiver Move Fox, I've been out of commission for a while. Hope to get a note off to all soon to get back into things. Here is my waiver move for this period: Ready? Ok. Waive Hollandsworth. Sophmore slump coupled with contract restrictions will have LA keeping him down all season now, I think. Replace him with the following (in order of preference): 1) Andruw Jones 2) Jose Cruz Jr. 3) Orlando Merced 4) Johnny Damon 5) Butch Huskey > Are you just trying to aggravate me bucko? Johnny Damon????? > He's on the bleeping Hogmen you idiot. You put him there, > remember? It was the tip you gave Willo, that he bitched about > until it became apparent JD was one of his best outfielders. Thank you. The Mazins > As was well publicized, you have been on secret probation. > Therefore, this latest gaffe will cost you 6 pints of whomever's > finest. ******************************************************************* From: Gabes Subject: Waiver Move; Don't Peek; Confirm Receipt Fox: I'm waiving Eric Davis for the following: Butch Huskey, Mets if he's not available then Jeffrey Hammonds, O's if he's not available then Bragg, Red Sox if he's not available then Jose Cruz, Jr., Seattle if he's not available then Stevens, Texas Rangers Thanks! Gabes P.S. I'm shocked that your Red Foxes haven't performed better in the head to head battles. As you've said though, you pick the players you think will perform and then hope for the best. It's impossible to predict who will play well and who will stay healthy. Still a long way to go! > The Red Foxes suck. > Suck, suck, suck. 3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333 Roster changes ... beginning May 26th Here's a summation of the moves from the transaction period that ended May 25. These moves take effect for AL players monday (5/26) and for NL players tuesday (5/27). Tamales get Ken Hill Nuts get J. Brantley > Trading problems? Busters get Palmiero, Naulty, plus a waiver slot Mazin's get Hal Morris, Kevin Appier > Mazin's then replace Morris with Olerud. I'd give the edge here > to the Busters who get to replace Naulty with whoever they want > using the thrown in waiver move. I'm sending this move to you on Friday afternoon because I'm getting ready to head off to my mother-in-law's home in Minnesota for the weekend (to do some outstanding Brown Trout fishing in the beautiful SE Minnesota streams). I'm bringing my PC with me but I thought I better send this note to you now in the event I can't get on the net from her home. I'll probably call you sometime over the weekend (perhaps on my 4.5 hour drive tomorrow morning). Andy and I have been talking about a blockbuster trade involving at least 8 players and a waiver move. I'm considering the trade but need clarification from you before I make up my mind. In any event, I want to make one waiver move for sure and don't want to risk missing the Sunday night deadline. Any calls from me or e-mail notes after this note will nullify this move, but, if you don't hear anything else from me then here's my move: The Ballbusters want to waive that dumb, motherbleepin' wetback Osvaldildo Fernandez (the Giants sad excuse for a SP). In his place we'd like Scott Erickson (SP, Orioles). If he's taken then D. Kile (SP, Astros). If he's taken then Gardner (SP, Giants). If he's taken then D. Burba (yeah, that's right) of the Reds. > So ... Osvaldo has been on the roster for three weeks and gets booted. > Among those on the replacement list is Burba, the guy who got booted > to make room for Osvaldo. And Gabes argues that we need more waiver > moves!!!! Gabes ***************************** > From John Fox I trust you got my recent note re an adjustment in my trade with Mags. essentially, I get Dion for Bichette and one of my waiver slots. The SS trade was removed from the deal. I keep Clayton, which I like A LOT. My waiver move. I say goodbye to J. Bluma of KC (selection 149) I say hello to: 1. Jamie Moyer (SP from Seattle), 2) J. Benitez RP from Baltimore, 3) M. Jackson RP from Cleveland, 4) Henry RP from Boston. Hope I get Moyer! Be well Commish > A pleasure working for such a gentleman! John ************************** > From Andy Fox, Following are mine and Gabes' waiver request as of this time. 11th hour negotiations are ongoing, so there may be changes. Please use most recent info when making final transactions. Sobo CEO Tamales ***************************************** > From Mags Commissioner, > lines deleted Here are my waiver moves. They are intended to lengthen my enormous lead over the Red Foxes, crush the communist Leathernuts, barbecue the little Hogs, stun the Mazins, toast the Tamales, shatter the Ballbusters, humble the Invinceabulls, pummel the Panzas, and skin the Muskrats. Anyhow, here they are: # 1 - Eject Rocky Coppinger, P (BAL) -- Insert Scott Erickson, P (BAL) # 2 - Eject that horse's ass Boggs, 3B (NYY) -- Insert Jeff Kent, 3B (SF), where he's currently playing 2B or 1B- what a talented guy! Note that Waiver move #2 uses the waiver acquired in trade with Muckrats. Kent is eligible as 3B based on tenure with Mets last year. > Kent has three grand slams already! Will he hit any more? The Mad Bomber ******************************************* > Here is Al's post move analysis of all the moves: Andy, Hmmm... Olerud for Morris? Olerud might be marginally better, but don't = know that I would have used a precious move for that marginal = difference. Oh, had Reggie Sanders gone down just one day earlier, you = could have used that move for much greater benefit. 4-6 weeks w/ a bad = sprained ankle. I'm sure his back will go out upon his return. Gabes... LOVE the moves on the pitchers. I came very close to dumping = Schourek for either KIle or Gardner, and let iy slide for one more = month. =20 Mags... love the Erickson pickup. Prep... Hill for Brantley? Don't know about that one. Branley has not = done too much since coming back, and Hill can be the Rangers ace. Good = luck w/ that one. Sobo... Tucker tripled and doubled tonight, knocked in a run. Abreu = went down injured. The gods have smiled upon me. Fox... the Bombers caught you. Hang your head. John, Bichette for Neon Deion. Big trade. I'll have to see where that = puts you inthe SB race. God knows you didn't need the power... good = move. Until, of course, September rolls around and the Reds are 22 games = out of first and Deion is in Dallas playing cornerback. 2222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222 Roster changes ... beginning May 5th Below I list all the waiver requests in the approximate order in which they were received. I inserted some editorial comments in . Andy sent in requests three times, and although only the final set are binding I included the others for history's sake. Also, even though his earlier requests do not count he can be penalized for any illegal requests contained therein ... see next paragraph. Some illegal requests were made. This should not happen. You boys need to pay attention. The ICC does not like the implication that you think you can send in any sort of horseshit requests and he can spend his valuable time sorting out the chaff from the wheat. Penalties are in order. In my "permanent" league owners are docked draft day dollars for requesting illegal moves. That would be equivalent to us taking away early round draft rights. We don't have to be that drastic but I will institute a new rule, effective at the start of this season, that for each illegal request made during the year the culpable owner must buy the ICC a beer. Note to Andy ... next time we visit the Victory Brewhouse you better bring lots of cash ... and plan on driving me home. At the end of the list of requests I summarize the actual moves which will take place. Remember that AL player moves take place this morning (Monday) and NL player moves take place tomorrow morning. Fox ************************************************************************* #1 Move - Waive Strawberry.... Note that I'm still attempting to have a closer, and not stack my pitchers with Starters only, even though Pichardo may be only a temp closer. This way you can't accuse me of trying to pad for my sidebets. Anyhow, here they are: # 1 - Add Jay Bell (SS), KC to replace B. Boone (2B), CIN # 2 - Add B. Witt (P), TEX to replace B. Bevil (P), KC #3 - Add H. Pichardo (P), KC to replace P. Shuey (P), CLE I'll save #4 for later- have a feeling I may still need it. *********************************************************************** Requested moves.... But let em both be warned that if they don't shape up I will ship em out. Smiley saved his butt with 7 shutout innings on Saturday. Looks like the Cards will stick with Eck so I'll replace TJ Matthews with 1) Rick Reed 2) Sean Estes 3) Ozzie Fernandez 4) William VanLandingham I though about Pichardo but I'm worried about Montgomary coming back plus I really need wins. ************************************************************************* The official waiver moves are: 1) Waive Dave Stevens: Claim (in order of preference): Bobby Witt Rick Reed Shawn Estes (SF guy) Hippolito Pichardo Pat Rapp loaiza (pirate guy) 2) waive dan naulty claim: the above in same order.
