Gabe's review of the draft: For starters, let me say that I found the last 12 days to be some of the most enjoyable I've had in some time. Yes, I know that means I don't have much of a life, but, the bottom line is that this draft has brought me back to the game I've always been the most passionate about since I was a little kid. I also think everyone did a great job of moving things along. I, for one, see no reason to change the draft format in the future. It's the fairest format I can think of, and if we get started no later than the first week in March, we'll always finish before opening day. The DICC's analysis of each team: Let's start with the Willo. To be frank, I think his team sucks! In fact, I've already told my boys Johnny and Patrick to expect another Jackson from that nice pig, Uncle Pillow, next October. Yeah, I know he's got two puds, I mean studs, at first base, but nothing excites me about the rest of his offense other than the fact that a couple of them can steal a few bases. Even then, ask Hans what he thinks of Delino DeShields and his .225 BA. He had him last year. Willo's pitching staff's not bad if you like a team ERA around 4! Andy's team is different, but then so is he! He's always liked living on the edge and I think his pitching staff (5 potential relievers) could flirt with the Commissioner's rule of 600 IP for the staff. On the other hand, his staff could challenge for a top spot in saves. I like his position players and I'd have taken Garciapara if he hadn't. He's an experienced roto player so I've got to think his team will factor in the race. Fox has the best outfield without question. However, the rest of his position players and his staff aren't so dominating that the rest of us can't challenge his team this year. Look for Sosa to better 50 homers though, and I'll never underestimate the Master Fox and any roto team he drafts. I think Al's got the best pitching staff. His outfield could be good too IF he gets Gonzalez AND Lankford back before June, and IF Strawberry sticks to drinking Coke rather than stuffing it in his nose. If not, he's in a lot of trouble. If so, I look for his team to challenge. I really liked John's pitching staff until he took Bluma and Jones. I debated whether or not to take Griffey on my first pick and something tells me I should have. I think Junior will have a great year. I also like Bichette, Buehner and Grissom. Not as nuts about the infield other than Castilla and I wouldn't have taken Lopez that early. Nonetheless, John's got a good team. I think Hans also has a good pitching staff, though I wouldn't have taken Ritz and his upper 4's ERA. I think he's got the best 2B/SS-2B combo and a good one in Ventura. I'm not crazy about his outfield other than Burks, but he's a good one IF he stays healthy and can repeat his career year of '96. I think Sobo did a very good job for his first roto draft. I've learned never to underestimate Sobo when it comes to competition. I've played on many teams with him and I know he likes to win. Thomas will put up some nice numbas and Grace will only help the average he gets from his 1B/1B-3B positions. He's also got nice middle infielders and a solid, if not spectacular, outfield. I look for his team to challenge. As for Preppy, I sure hope his Twinkies make it to the World Series and Eisenreich is the NL MVP, otherwise he's gonna owe lots of money! In any event, you know I love you, Pink One. The DICC just isn't nuts about your Pink Pussies. As for my team, I'm pretty happy with it, and certainly much happier than I was with that pathetic vomit squad I had last year, although I need a healthy Eric Davis and Shawon Dunston all year. After post draft review, I would have taken A. Rodriguez on my first pick rather than Bonds. Of course, Barry would be on another team but I'd rather have Rodriguez at short than Dunston and I could have had Justice on my 20th pick. In any event, I think the Ballbusters will challenge this year which will allow their CEO to bust balls all summer! I had a blast, guys! I'm really looking forward to opening day. Good luck to all, particularly Willo and Preppy. I think they'll need it! DICC
