Andy's review of the draft: Cyberladies, I have just finished analyzing the draft data on my super-crayola and the results are as expected: Mazin McDoormats to finish first with a comfortable margin in what will probably be a wire to wire finish. You all drafted admirably, but unfortunately none could stay with me. Let's get right to the numbers for the positions you will finish: HR RBI SB AVG. Total Pts. Leathernuts 1 1 5 9 16 Rangers 2 6 3 8 19 Ball Busters 7 7 3 8 25 Invinceables 3 2 4 4 13 Muskrats 6 3 1 3 13 Panzas 5 5 2 1 13 Foxes 8 8 7 6 29 Mazins 9 9 8 7 33 Hogs 4 4 6 2 16 As you can see, not much of a fight for first in the offensive categories, but a real good cellar match amongst the Invinceables, Muskrats, and Panzas. And the Pitching: Wins Saves ERA Total Pts. Total Totals Leathernuts 7 1 2 10 26 Rangers 2 9 8 19 38 Ball Busters 1 8 7 16 41 Invinceables 6 7 5 18 31 Muskrats 5 4 4 13 26 Panzas 8 2 1 11 24 Foxes 3 5 6 14 43 Mazins 4 6 9 19 52 Hogs 9 3 3 15 31 And there you have it. Mazins to run away with the crown, Ball busters and Foxes to fight it out for 2nd place, Panzas, Muskrats and Leathernuts to fight it out for last place, with the Panzas favored to lose it all. Individual draft analysis and team commentary will follow in a subsequent note. My purpose is not to embarrass anyone here, just to make you better players for next year when you attempt to challenge me again. Yours in domination, The Mazin' McDoormats ********************************************************************* Also rans, Following please find detailed commentary on your team and draft selections. Please don't be too hard on yourselves in comparison to the Mazins'. Leathernuts: Boy, you must have big ones to have ever thought that you could compete in this league. It was obvious in early goings you hadn't a clue of what you were doing when you selected Brady Anderson in round two, Marty Cordova in four, and Paul Molitor in 8. And how do you spell RELIEF? I guess for a rookie effort there are some bright spots to this team even if you can't subtract Trombley and Patterson, but from all indications here, the Commie Leathernuts should be ready to compete about the time Hale-Bopp makes another pass. Rangers: Not a bad effort for a first timer, Gary, but PLEASE - get rid of the Mark Grace fascination. Durham was a stretch in round 5 but a lousy pick like that was to be expected after you stunk out the joint with Jeter in round 4. By the way, you can gladly have the spitter you took in round 2. Hope he gets a lot of close calls. Hernandez in 3 was a mistake, as was James Baldwin (he of the high ERA). But hey, not everyone can be as good as the Mazins. Just keep trying and you should be in the hunt for a league title about the time Rich Becker reaches his "potential". Is Rusty Greer Will's son? Love Todd Walker. Ball Busters: You've come a long way baby. All the way to a full fledged also-ran. If it wasn't for the Mazins, you might have a shot at this thing. But, let's get back to reality. Ryne Sandberg's wife left him for a reason and you should have too. Dunston never reached the star status everyone predicted, so why should he now. Hello Hampton, Stottlemeyer and Burba, Good-Bye ERA. Will Mike Mussina ever find happiness in Baltimore? Or his old fastball? And I'm glad to see that Knoblauch's bad hamstrings don't bother you in the least. Invinceables: This team looks like a 13 year old drafted it. It's a good thing that kid can play basketball. Burks in round 1? Ventura,Baines,Martinez,Alvarez,Hundley......Somebody's been hanging around the windy city too long. MARTINEZ!!!! Well, at least last year's disappointing finish will have you prepared for this year's fiasco as well. There are signs of progress however. Muskrats: Most disappointing. It seemed to me at times during the draft that your mind must not have been focused on what you were doing. Almost like you were in the middle of preparing bird's nest soup or something like that. Javy Lopez in round 4? The crowd cheered. Jamie Bluma? You really shouldn't read all those pre-season magazines. A little bit of knowledge is trully a dangerous thing. Charlton, Eckersley, Franco? I'm glad to see the Muskrats don't practice age discrimination. Well, at least you should be able to stay out of the cellar, one step ahead of Al. Panzas: This isn't a baseball team, it's a MASH unit. Tettleton, Fielder, Palmer, Gonzalez, Walker, Lankford, Strawberry, R.Johnson, R. Martinez,.... on and on. Hope your HMO coverage is up to date. Really Al, we expected better of you. Foxes: The Fox game was finished as soon as the AL teams were invited into the format. No more Mr. NL expertise with 17 roto teams going over the last ten years. Filled up those OF slots awful quickly didn't you, red beard? Jose Rosado? I thought you learned your lesson last year with Paul Wilson. M.Williams, S.Berry? Thought about a trade with the Panzas yet? Hog Men: Wonderful draft, Willo. With my expert coaching as your draft buddy I'm sure you will embarrass all these pretenders out here. This would be a wonderful opportunity for you to make some money if only you could find someone willing to offer you credit on a bet. By the way, Cal Ripken wasn't my idea. And there you have it.
