2012 CZ Baseball Draft Interesting Picks and some Things to Watch Fox Round 1 1 & 2: Kemp & Pujols, Five category vs Consistent Excellence 4 & 6: Cano and Tulowitski, Positional scarcity picks? Does it matter? 8: Ryan Braun .. how much will he miss Fielder? How much will he miss the drugs? Busters retake their superstar from last year's championship team. And call all of us morons! Will be interesting. Round 2 11, 12, & 16: Granderson and J Upton before Cargo? Hmmm. Its interesting. 14 & 18: Hanley goes 4 picks before Jose .. how these two fare together in Florida should be interesting 15: Foxes take draft's first P .. Kershaw. Solid choice? Well sure. But P's are a crap shoot. Kershaw, Halliday, Verlander? Only P taken in 2nd round vs 4 taken in first 21 picks last year. 20 & 21: Mazins wrap up remaining elite 2b, passing on top P's and OFs seeing how before they pick again we will take 8 P's and 6 OF's. Worth it? Round 3 Besides Mazins 2b pick to start round we take only P's and OF's. 29: Expectorators roll dice with Josh Hamilton ... MVP candidate with lots of questionmarks. Round 4 Available quality seems to have dropped faster than in years past? Beltre and Pence this early? 32 & 40: Hosmer and Lawrie .. pair of 22 year olds. Interesting. 37: Hamels. Third Philly P taken. We believe 3 of the top 8 P's in baseball throw for Philadelphia. Cool! Round 5 41: First catcher goes off the board. Santana. Good idea? 42 % 48: Bourne and Andrus. One dimensional speedsters. Do they get enough SBs to make these draft slots reasonable? 50 & 51: Panzas take Uggla and Bruce claiming "batting average is overrated". Will they pull down the Panza's average? Are they worth it? Round 6 59: A Rod. Surprised he lasted this long. His draft positions since 1997: 6,5,2,2,1,1,1,1,4,1,5,1,29(injured),7,7,and now 59. Was quite a run! Round 7 64, 65, 68 & 69: Catcher run. Weiters, Mccann, Montero, Posey .. who did we miss? 67: David Price. Bombers got a good deal here .. why was he still on the board? Round 8 71: Crawford. Pick number 8 last year. Will he return to prominence? 79, 80, 81, & 82: Nuts and Mazins stage their own little RP run although it doesn't really catch on as next RP is taken at pick 90 but after that another not taken until 123. Round 9 We are one third of the wat through draft. Who in the remaining rounds will be the surprises of the year? Any super stars who emerge from here on out are gravy. 87: CJ Wilson. Bombers grabbing some pretty good pitching last two rounds. Round 10 91: Bonifacio. Albert mentions his position flexability in his pithy comment. Are owners considering that as a real factor when they draft? Is this a nod to the importance of in season roster management flexability? 95: Jesus Montero. Has only 61 ML ABs but slated to play often for Seattle. Will he hit? Third 22 year old (Hosmer and Lawrie) with "little" experience taken so far? Which will prosper? Any? 98: Angel Pagen .. taken just three picks after Jesus. Coincidence? Round 11 102, 107, & 109 and more: Beckett, Berkman, Johnson .. does it pay to gamble on those injury comeback former stars? Round 12 111: Panzas forced to take Strasburg when Terry snakes them with his 109 Johnson "re-pick". Terry had taken an already claimed player and draft was paused to straighten things out. Albert wonders what happens if he misses the note to pause and goes ahead and takes Strasburg. Strasburg vs Johnson. Interesting. 112: Dee Gordan. How many will he steal. I think a lot! Could be 12th round gold. That's enough!
