A record of rules change discussions during the 2008 season: March30 Mags, The rules as stated are inconsistent. At one point they say that such and such moves (DL and NR) can be made any Sunday after the start of the season. That implies no preseason moves. At another point they say: "Any major league stats that accrue during preseason are considered, for our purposes, to have occurred during the first week of the season. So, if two teams play an early game in Japan, and unclaimed Player A hits a grand slam, and Owner B picks up Player A with a DL move after that game but before the end of preseason, then Owner B gets credit for the slam." That implies that we DO have preseason moves. And since I announced that people should get their moves in, and I think everyone has .. we WILL have "preseason" moves this year. I'll have to rewrite/clarify the rules on this point, but other than that the rules are perfect, just perfect. The current rules also say that trades can occur any time after the draft .. so we also have preseason trades. I think it might be best in upcoming years to keep the preseason trades and NR moves but not allow DL moves until the first or maybe even second Sunday of the "regular" season. That gives MLB a chance to get their DL lists straightened out. But that is next year .. maybe. This year, we have preseason moves. And I'll send them out in a few minutes. Fox ------------------- March 31 Note - I think next year we'll have a rule that says DL moves start the 2nd sunday of the season .. ICC Why not start the 1st Sunday (like this) and just skip the preseason one? Seems like a week penalty for any teams with DL players if you wait until week 2. Mags To put a little separation between the preseason trades/NR moves and the DL moves. It is a bit of a pain to have them one day apart. To allow the dust to settle from the major league early season roster adjustment. But whatever ... Fox Fox, I really think you need to allow moves the Sunday night before opening day. The loop hole you want to close is the one I found by picking up Odalis Perez for one start and then reversing the move the next day so I could bring back Smoltz who is supposed to start this coming Sunday (the move almost worked like a charm for me, too; but for a late passed ball that allowed Atlanta to tie 2-2, I would have gotten a cheap win; as it was I still got a 1.80 ERA and and a couple of Ks out of Perez; a good outing). If there was no Saturday night move, I could not have done what I did. I think it would be very unfair to not allow a move period just before all games begin, though. If a team has multiple guys hurt, especially if they get hurt after you drafted them, then it will put that team at a severe disadvantage if they have to wait a couple of weeks to reserve the injured players. Eliminate the Saturday night move and just allow the Sunday night move and I think the loop hole is closed. Gabes Gabes, I'm not targeting that "loophole". I thought it was a good move and in fact grabbed Perez with my last pick in my draft last night just so I could start him this week. I got screwed by the same passed ball. The reason I want to do it is so that the DL moves are settled. In the first few days there are known injuries to players but the major league teams are still screwing around with their rosters and the DL is not set. Some guys are on, some are not, some are put on at the last minute, some are post dated .. it can be a mess and I'm most interested in just not having to deal with all of that. Fox ------------------------- Terry suggests that during the all star break the move deadline be extended from Sunday night to Wednesday night. This would allow everyone to take their time, discuss trades and consider moves without the distraction of a meaningful game being played every two minutes, and provide a welcome respite from the weekly "I gotta make my moves now" feeling on Sunday afternoon/evenings. I like the idea. -------------------------- With all of the DL moves and such, I've had 40-45 players on my roster at various times. It has diluted the sense of team 'ownership' and made it a lot less interesting in terms of tracking how my original draft selections turned out. I think I'd prefer a 'pool' of reserves the way we did in rotohoops, but I doubt others would agree. Mags ******** What if you draft 25 players but only field a team of 8 hitters (3 of, 1 1b, etc), 4 SP, 1 RP and 1 P with the ability to change your lineup every week while allowing, let's say for arguments sake, 6 waiver moves per year. I think all of the above could be handled "automatically" by Sportsline, greatly reducing the work required by Hans/Fox. Fox ******* I like this idea of fielding a team every week, using the Sportsline service and having reserves. With all the moves we do now, the weekly burden on Fox and Hans must be tough- I couldn't do it. Especially with the nutso requests that come in from some teams. I'd rather have the extra reserve moves and eliminate trading too, since trading has turned into more of a car-buying experience than a friendly back-and-forth among friends. Mags ******* Draft season is the most fun time for this league. Expanding draft season to include draft of an "extra" pool of 10 reserves would be great by me. I would caution against allowing trades of these reserve players. That could get messy. In fact, I would prefer a "no trades allowed" league if we went to the extra reserve pool format. The "extra" 10 could be any position, but you would have to state what position at time of draft if eligible for multiple positions. Mid-season (All Star week time frame) could have a second round of reserve players to be drafted to pick up on rookies and others not originally selected. Concept is this: You can replace any of your existing players with a reserve player from your bench (not the free agent pool) for injuries or free moves. If an injury, the automatic reversal rule would apply when the injured player returns. If an NR move, the original player is gone from the team (and all) for the season. That player could be re-drafted in the mid-season draft by any. We should also have a September call up rule..... Hideously Horrible Mazins ******* Fox, I like the rules the way they are now. They are perfect. I also think the draft is just fine the way it is. What you suggest below [above] blows, and here I thought you were a smart fucker. Gabes You got my vote on dis one, 'Buster!
