I have had the chance to closely review each team as the names were posted into the CBS Sportsline official league site. A few comments...... Prep - This was your best draft in years. maybe ever. Yes, I know there were alot of suprised fellow owners when you took Pedro first. He IS the best pitcher is baseball. The fact that Big Mac was still available to you for the 25th pick was amazing. Your Magglio pick will pay big dividends. Who is this guy Jones? had to have a twinkie, right? one problem, 6 players currently with some sort of injury. Ikey - Our good doctor may have the best team in the league. I said MAY have.... Great middle of the lineup starting with A Rod. I hope Mo Vaughn does better for you than he did for me last year. Also like the Hampton and El Duque picks at Pitcher, and despite Alberts comments, think that Kenny Rogers will win in double digits without excessive ERA. He just needs to stay out of New York City. Gabes - You got best shortstop in Jeter and alot of power with Bonds and Belle. Pitching, though, will kill you, I predict. Womack helped me big time last year in SB's and he'll do it again for you. Just like in the Bigs.... If your pitching does come through, the Busters will be tough Willo - As I scan your roster, a couple of questions - Al Martin - what the hell did he do again? is Burrell a major leaguer or a AAA player, did I just see that Seattle dumped Hunter? When will Schilling pitch....sooo many questions and only a few answers in Juan "I love Detroit" Gonzalez, Nomar, Millwood and Giambi. Good thing the BoSox will be good, otherwise it would be a long season for our digmeister. Andy - You've taken alot of grief for Yarnall. I'll bet you get the last laugh with a suprising strong pitching staff, with Kevin Brown and Chuck Finley your best. and your Kerry Woods gamble will pay off. I am less than impressed with the outfield. O'Neill? Ledee? Keep Canseco and pudge Rodriquez healthy and the Mazins will contend. John - you were a good draft buddy. I tried loading up on good catchers early last year like you did this year. I struggled to get to the middle of the pack. Your team will have a similar result in '00. Picks I like: Abreu, Reggie Sanders (yes Gabes, the same one you hated), and Sean Casey. the pitchers, again.... a sorry lot. Sobo - you also were a good draft buddy, but no, I'm not interested in a trade, at least now. Based on what I'm reading now, I should have passed on Chipper and took Bagwell. He will have a huge year. Good pitchers, even Rocker, but what were you thinking when you took Derek Bell? he sucks. Despite Bell, the Tamales will contend in '00. Fox - Once again, I passed on a great player that I will regret - Griffey will put up HUGE stats in Cincy. Great power, decent speed. Hitchcock as your main pitcher???? I'm guessing you were distracted when you made that pick. Even though your team suprized me, I have learned over the years that when it is all said and done the Red Foxes are at or near the top. So I'll watch again in amazement. Jack - Welcome to the league. Did you notice that NO one else took a Rockies pitcher? Get ready for a huge ERA. Great picks include Robin Ventura, Jose Lima, Carlos Delgado and Billy Wagner. Green and Robbie Alomar had great years last year. a repeat? hard to say. One tip... Henry Rodriquez will start fast and fade mid year. Get ready to waive him after the All Star Break. Al - You assembled alot of power in Sosa, Ramierez and Gallaraga. Frank Thomas is no longer a favorite in Chicago, so good luck with that one. Maddux will again win 20, and Ankiel is getting great early press, so you may be able to survive the Smoltz injury. NOT. Mags - Nice start with Walker and Biggio. Decent power in Greg Vaughn and Beltran and Greive. Other position players were available for you cause no one else wanted them. Pitching is one of the best assembled. But since there are only 4 pitching catagories vs. 5 hitting, dont expect to be in the top third when it is all said and done. Invincibles. - Everyone else picked their own teams in their analysis. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. The Big Unit has been shelled all preseason. Omar Olivares gave up 11 earned runs in 5 innings yesterday, and Harold Baines is one step from Social Security. I'm anxious to see how Everett does in Boston, and whether Bernie Williams has another big season. My team has little speed, will hit for average, but may suffer in runs and rbi's. The pitching should lead the league. Watch Jason Schmidt and Darryl Kile have big years. despite my concerns, the Invincibles will contend. Play Ball!
