Prep - first, I have you at two addresses - which do you want me to use? second, We do business with a paper mill that has a plant in Cloquet, MN. How close is that to where Pengilly will be staged? Depending on the logistics, I may come up a day early and go to the Potlatch plant. By the way, how's your golf game? Hans ******************************************************************** Subject: Re: Where is Pengilly? Hans and others: Cloquet is only about 65 miles southeast of Pengilly. Take Highway 33 (the Cloquet cutoff) north to U.S. Highway 2. Take 2 to U.S. 65 (approximately 42 miles from the intersection of 2 and 33. Go north on 65 18 miles to Pengilly. Take Jefferson Drive approximately 1/4 to the sign that says Pearson/Voigt and you're there. Incidentally, Blandin runs a paper mill in Grand Rapids. My thought at the moment is to depart from Minneapolis Thursday at approximately noon with our van, which accommodates 5-6 comfortably with clubs and bags, to Lake Mille Lacs. Fishing, gambling and golf at Mille Lacs Thursday afternoon and evening and possibly Friday morning. There's a Pete Dye target course at Mille Lacs and I've got some leads on a guide for fishing. It's a two hour drive to Pengilly from Mille Lacs, which leaves a good part of Friday afternoon and evening for fishing, skiing, golf, barbecue, etc. Saturday is probably the best day for the Cyberzahm tournament, and we have our pick of courses 3 blocks away (a fun 9 hole track), 5 miles away (decent), 15 miles away (very good), or a Lanny Wadkins course (the best course in Minnesota for my money) approximately 65 miles away. Depending on who shows, we may need to rent another vehicle. My thought is that some folks may want to leave from Duluth on Sunday, because it's only a little over 1 hour from the cabin. The rest of us can head back to the Twin Cities when necessary. Figure 4 hours from cabin to airport. Weather should be sunny and 70's to low 80's that weekend, with cool evenings. Bring raingear. We will have sheets and beach towels. My neighbor caught a large walleye several weeks ago. My golf game is still marginal, but I think I've found a putting stroke. I'm shooting mid to high 80's these days. The low gross plaque will be at Pengilly so you all can see where my name will be added after this year's event. This is the kind of banal legalistic jingo that gives you JD's a bad (and rightly so) name. What EXACTLY do you mean by "approximately 42 miles"? Is that a guess of the distance based on an occasional glimpse at your odometer? In which case, is it between 40 and 45 miles? Or is it between 41.5 and 42.5 miles? Or 41.9 and 42.1? Or, is it a conversion from metric, in which case is it an approximate conversion of 67 km, or is it based on an approximate distance, between 65 and 70 km, then converted back to miles? Or is it a guess based on the duration of the mental lapse between this ill-defined "2" and US 65. Also, where does one start to "take Highway 33" north? No wonder the courts are mired in drawn out, ridiculous patterings over prosecutions and procedures. Tell it like it is. Use plain, clear English that we may be able to understand and interpret. Better yet, be like Gabes. Approximately lost, Mags ************************************************************************* > > No wonder the courts are mired in drawn out, ridiculous patterings > over prosecutions and procedures. All you bleepers know that there's no bleepin' grey area when I splain sumpin! Gabes ************************************************************************ Mags: Sorry about that. For those of you who, like Hans, may come a day early to visit a client in Cloquet but who, like Mags, don't count in miles, let me express it Southern Style: from the ol' lumber mill, mosey on down main street, then spit some chaw in the direction of the sunset. Hoof it fer a spell 'til ya'll get tired of goin' in that direction, then lean left (that would be the side yer glove hand's on if yer 'Merican) and amble on to the big old shade tree. Wind around the tree 'bout half way, then light out in that direction for as long as it would take 'ya ta boff two sheep. Ya'll should be at Swan River (ya'll won't see no river - we jes use names like that to confuse the riffraff) then lean right (that's yer throwin' side) and mosey on up ta Pengilly. I reckon ya'll can be there in the time it takes fer a good shit - but don't worry 'bout shittin' on the way, 'cause the crapper's still upright and the plunger's within reach. If you don't plan to visit Cloquet, plan to come into Minneapolis and I'll make arrangements to pick you up. Prep
